Could we soon see sponsored logos on the field?

College football is going to be more about money than it ever has been.

It's a great idea. Not just in the field, but naming rights for stadiums.

Another idea that's mentioned is licensing player names for use in college fantasy sports.

"These greedy kids are ruining football," everyone has been taught to repeat. "I don't know where the little sh-ts learned all of this greed. They are ruining the absolute purity of the game."

The day that happens we can say we went down to the crossroads, fell on our knees and sold our souls.

I disagree that itā€™s inevitable and the sign of the times. I love college sports and understand itā€™s a business, but where will it end? When is enough, enough? The pros always say ā€œitā€™s a businessā€ and soon we will hear the student athletes say this?

I have this vision of the Bad News Bears uniforms - Billy Bob Thornton was the coach.

We'll know it's enough when some obvious rubicon is crossed and the sport no longer exists.

All the players' uniforms will be festooned with so many product logos they'll look like walking billboards.
Hey, come on..dont pick on just Nascar...what about F1 or Indy cars. Their uniforms are are also well adorned. Or Premier League Soccer uniforms even. Nascar always catches the brunt of the sponsorship jokes. Maybe they are just ahead of their time.

I get why they are doing it, but I sure donā€™t like it. Iā€™ll keep watching it, but sad to see all the changes. The Power T, SEC logo, and checkerboards are the only things I want to see on our field. The players and coaches will have to start mentioning their sponsors like the NASCAR drivers do.

Can you imagine players thanking a sponsor in a post game TV interview?

It is indeed a brave new world.

I hate it but afraid it's inevitable. Tooooo much money/revenue involved...I see in time it will be like Nascar. A patch here, patch there, patch everywhere... Tragic.

I don't think it will get like that. Nascar teams are funded almost entirely though sponsorship. They get TV money as well but not nearly as much as CFB and the majority of it doesn't reach individual Nascar teams, the big wigs keep most of it or it's used to promote.

That being said, I too think it's inevitable. I mean we already have a freaking Food City logo on our basketball court.

I'm not thrilled with the direction of the sport, either, but we have no choice but to embrace it. It's a new era.
Ok but if we lose/alter the sole name of Neyland Stadium or Shields-Watkins Field to some hotdog company, I might just lose it! And those great guys will roll over in their graves....

Been going to that stadium for too many years and it just wouldn't be right in my book. Gotta always acknowledge those who made a difference in Tennessee Football.

Let us not forget history!

EXACTLY. You can't spell Neyland stadium without Neyland stadium.
