Country music thread

Not a bad song, but Pat has really crapped out since he went to Nashville. Nothing of the quality of "Georges Bar", "Adios Days", or "Dancehall Dreamer" on the newer stuff.. the "Georges Bar" CD, i could listen to on repeat all day and never get sick of it..

His buddies Cory Morrow and Dub Miller keep me entertained alot these days

That has happened to a lot of them, they get managed and lose their originality in the name of marketability.

I still like Pat Green. I think his newest cd, Cannonball, is better than most of recent ones. Dixie Lullaby is very, very good.

The Country Music thread sank way too low on the chart, it's a great thread as long as it is visible, go to it boys (and girls)

You are familiar with the Georges Bar and other older CD's?

I've heard the title track (George's Bar), Songs about Texas, If I had a million and John Wayne and Jesus.

My favorite song though is "Wrong Side of Town" from the "Three Days" album. Not sure if you count that one of his older albums or not.

Too lazy to look this up, but I've been listening to a lot of Randy Travis lately and I don't think anyone has mentioned him. Seems Garth, Alan Jackson, Clint Black and rest of the '89 class caused him to lose some of the recognition he deserves. "he walked on the water", "deeper than the holler" and "i told you so" are some of my all-time favorites

I love Randy Travis. "Three Wooden Crosses", "Forever and ever amen", and "Out of my bones" are some of my favorites of his to go along with yours. Deeper than the holler is one of my favorite songs ever.

i'm also a big fan of "look heart, no hands". Laugh if you want, but "Three Wooden Crosses" still gives me goose bumps. It's one of those great story telling songs.

I forgot about look heart, no hands, very good song.

Yep, Three wooden crosses is definitely one of his best.

Randy's voice is great, and his songs are well chosen. I was lucky enough to see him a few years back at the local fair, he's a throwback...no stupid ass jimmy buffett straw hat for him, it's a suit and dress shoes.

The top song on my playlist now has to be "Stranger to the Rain" by Keith Whitley....one of those songs i knew way back, filed it, and recently rediscovered.....great song and voice.

i've seen buffett twice and watched numerous dvds and television specials (huge parrothead fan), but I don't know that I've ever seen him in a straw hat.

Keith Whitley is amazing. Just amazing.

By the way, you never answered my question, does Pat Green's "Three Days" album count as Nashville crap or is it before?

I should have said "The new Kenny Chesney", rather than Buffett. I love to listen to Jimmy, though it wouldn't hurt my feelings if i never heard 'Margaritaville" again. "Last Mango in Paris" is probably my favorite.

Three Days is the last good Pat Green album in my opinion. Alot of the songs are remakes of the older, rougher edged recordings, but top to bottom it's a great listen. "Threadbare Gypsy Soul" is a great song, it leads me into a content state of daydreaming every time i hear it.

I agree. While I consider myself a huge Buffett fan, I'm not a true parrothead I guess. I'm not big on his huge island concert hits, but songs like Biloxi and African Friend come to mind as fabulous songs.

good to hear. I think Three Days is an incredible album. I'll check out some other stuff from George's Bar. any other old Pat Green you would recommend?

Dancehall Dreamer is probably my all time favorite behind George's. Carry On is also a great album.

The live Albums (Here We Go, and @ Billy Bobs) are also very good.

'Songs We Wish We'd Written" with Cory Morrow is also a very fun album.

Cory Morrow is awesome in his own right, if you happen upon his stuff check it out. I'm not sure, but i think you can listen to it on myspace music, Texas Time Travelin', Angela, and The Mercenary are favorites of mine, Cory's voice has the perfect amount of touch and twang, I think he'd be offered money he couldn't refuse from Nashville if not for a few incidents with booze and the white stuff.

@ Billy Bob's is the album that hooked me on Pat Green. Will definitely check out more of Dancehall Dreamer and give Cory Morrow a listen. I love new (to me) music.

It sucks, as i live in connecticut, most national acts i see are in Arena-Record schill type concerts, Pat let me down when he was touring with Chesney. About the only small venue shows ive seen worth a darn here were Shooter Jennings, Willie, and Mellencamp (not country, but great tunes, although it cost me $150 a ticket for me and the wife).

When i was in the service in Colorado, i saw lots of bigger names in bars, Pat, Cory, Robert Earl, Chris Ledoux, Haggard, among others

Song wise, check out Dancehall Dreamer, Adios Days, Snowing on Raton, John Wayne and Jesus, Nightmare, and Here We Go, if you're downloading by the song.

As mentioned I have heard John Wayne and Jesus and I am a fan. Adios Days sounds familar too. I saw Pat at Milwaukee's Summerfest last year and he put on a great show. Played a lot of stuff I had never heard before that sounded good and I can only imagine it was older stuff. I won't say he was putting Chesney down per say, but he didn't seem to fond of his style, musically or live entertainment wise with some little wisecracks he said.

Adios Days, on the wide open prairie, nights in the canyon are gone....not your traditional first dance at a wedding, but it's one of mine and my wife's favorites, so that it was!!!

At least it wasn't "Whisky Lullaby" or "He Stopped Loving Her Today"!

International Harvester might be the best song i have heard in years.

Have the oppurtunity to have one of the best jobs in the world, in working security at Cross Country Trail Ride. There is a country star there most every month, 7 months of the year. A lot of them want to ride, or float, so as I work there, always have my horses there, can take em floating........FUN. Craig Morgan was there one ride last year, and was really so very nice.
