Country music thread

On Midland; I like their sound, but they're manufactured to be what I like, they haven't paid the road dues that I appreciate about the red dirt/texas scene. They are the "hello, fellow ragweed fans, should we partake in a marijuana cigarette"
Lolol a girl I’ve been off and on friends with for 20 years and tried to date a time or two loves Midland. Then when she said they didn’t have the red dirt sound/vibe, I asked her how she thought that. She got all ticked at me when I said that’s literally what they sell themselves as, it’s not just my opinion

This is like the rise of the Outlaws before we were born , and its gonna ruin things as we get a lot more Midlands. Good for the ears but nothing as real as the late Brandon Jenkins singing "Red Dirt Town".

I’m surprised they made my top 5, but I played the crap out of The Sonic Ranch and The Last Resort so I guess it makes sense. I never really listened to them until I saw them in concert in Knoxville in 2018, very good show. I get the manufactured part, feels like they’re trying to play up the outlaw/red dirt/Texas theme while driving a bus that Florida Georgia Line or Luke Bryan would ride in.

Raised on George Strait, Alan Jackson, and Pat Green…

Just wish I would’ve learned how to pick from a VHS

The only exposure I had to country music growing up was the occasional Alabama album my mom would play and the cheesy country Christmas albums. I was heavily into metal, hardcore punk, and pop punk in high school and early college. Listened to Turnpike Troubadours one day randomly and the rest is history.

Similar. Discovered Pat, Boland in Ragweed when stationed in Colorado and it turned on a light in my head. Holy **** it was an epiphany

I grew up getting to listen to everything. My dad enjoyed 50s-70s country and classic rock. Mom listened to bubble gum pop, current (80s) country, and Motown. I liked it all. Except 80s rock. The 90s hit, grunge and alt rock were INCREDIBLE as was 90s country. Things went south after that. When stationed at Ft Bragg, two Texans heard me listening to Pat and introduced me to Texas/Red Dirt. Most notably RRB.

I sometimes wonder how many great artists we missed out on in the 00s before Spotify, Pandora, etc made new music and artists so accessible. Just interesting how things go from word of mouth and copying CD’s to just being able to hop on Spotify and probably find 5 new artists you like in a day.

I listened to about half of it this morning, so good
Love that they covered Radney Foster. I appreciate that they don’t change the songs to make them their own. Even the female sung songs. And how they find songs/artists 90s country fans have probably forgotten, but instantly remember every single lyric
