Country music thread

speaking of name dropping, I like how Jamey Johnson plays the part of the nobody guitar who's been trying and trying to get there and Bill Anderson gets to be the guitar that's been everywhere and seen everybody. I don't think anyone could argue that Bill Anderson doesn't have the street cred to name drop whomever he so desires:

Sums up your country music knowledge in 1 post.

Definitely. I'm seeing him and Brantley Gilbert live next month, I'm really excited. Not a song of Eric's I can't listen to.

Prepared to be blown away. Ive been to over 20 of his concerts. Met him 3 times through meet and greet. He puts on a better show than any country singer out there

I tried my best the other day to make it through two new country songs on Pandora. I just cant stand the newer style.

Ha no. I temporarily lost my ability to read and thought your post said he DID NOT have the street cred to name drop. My fault chief.

No worries, I had to read what I wrote three times to make sure I wrote was correct.

And I still can't get into Eric Church. I tried listening to some of the songs from Chief on Spotify last night. Just not my thing.

My opinion, I've seen him about 10 times over the last few years, there's no better CD than his first one "Sinners Like Me". I like Chief alright, but it's his worst one when it comes to music quality and more importantly lyrics. Watta ya know when he comes out with his "lease country" IMO album Nashville loves it and so does everybody else.

check out "Sinners Like Me", "These Boots", and "Can't Take it With You"

Your opinion is useless........ Eric would be a mear stage prop in one of GWAR's concerts

Hes got alot of other songs not on albums. Check out " faster than my angels can fly" "my hearts got a memory" " chevy van". I agree with ev, but i enjoyed carolina album more than sinners like me a tad more.

I agree with rockyvols, I would definitely show somebody some tracks off of Carolina or Sinners Like Me if I was trying to get them to be an Eric Church fan. Chief is good too, but it's not the album to get you hooked on his music.

faster than my angels can fly wasn't bad. My heart's got a memory didn't do much for me. Chevy Van is older than most on this board. It's been covered by a bevy of people, including Bread, Waylon and Sammy Kershaw. I think, and could be wrong, that Sammy Johns first recorded it. Not sure if he's the songwriter though.

I need a little help ladies and gentlemen....

Can some of you Country Music people name some of your favorite country songs that nobody's heard of? It seems that some of the best music is never released, and unless you buy the CD you're not hearing the artists best. As a singer I'm always doing covers and looking for good country songs that people just need to hear.

Most anything by Jamey Johnson.

Skip Ewing has written, and recorded, some great songs but never got as much air play as he deserved, imo.

Bart Crow Band, Randy Rogers Band and if you have listened to Cross Canadian Ragweed, check them out.

Had the privilege of meeting Drew Womack in Austin earlier tonight. Great guy. He's a talented artist, kind of unfortunate he hasn't really made it big. However, he penned "She's Got It All" for Kenny and "I Hope You Dance", so he's a talented guy.

so I'm still trying to give Eric Church a chance... The lyrics to "Carolina" are really good and I'm usually a sucker for those type of songs, but it made me realize something. Even though I typically like the "outlaw country" sound, I just don't like his specific sound. "Carolina" is easily my favorite lyrical work by him, I just can't get into it. The only song by his that I really like is the hit, "i love your love the most" or whatever the proper name is. I'm sorry, but I promise I've tried to like him.
