Country music thread

the neo-outlaws always have to mention waylon, hank jr, or merle. it's the most garish, bogus, and phony presentation maybe in all popular music.

Name dropping used to be a novelty that was fun, now it's a stale staple.

Eric Church had a song on one of his albums about how Johnny Cash would whip your ass for name dropping him in some soft pop country/rock country song.

I tend to agree.

"A lotta boot left to fill" I believe is the name of the song

The kids that listened to Hank Jr are all grown up and try to be him.

The difference is, Hank Jr knew the people he name dropped and partied with them.

The ones doing it now have no damn idea who they're even talking about.

People tend to think its about jason aldean because of his johny cash song. It wasnt directed toward any one person. Its just a song

Here's some Austin name dropping, it's kinda fun. Not calling out names to prove "Countryness"

From a guy who pretty much always got it right musically. We'll just forget that he beat his wife and was also separately charged once for disorderly use and possession of a firearm...

and obviously I don't know how to properly embed video on here... Go figure

Edit: Figured it out. It was literally too easy, I was trying waaaaaaaay too hard. That's what I get for being a nerd I guess. No matter how often they tell me to try to fix things the simple way first, I never listen.

Didn't he pretend to be a cop once too?

speaking of name dropping, I like how Jamey Johnson plays the part of the nobody guitar who's been trying and trying to get there and Bill Anderson gets to be the guitar that's been everywhere and seen everybody. I don't think anyone could argue that Bill Anderson doesn't have the street cred to name drop whomever he so desires:

So what you're saying is he's a sellout. Makes me want to listen to him less. You're saying he's the country version of John Mayer. I'll pass, I want someone who wants to sing country and make his name that way. At least Jason aldean gets it right about 1/2 the time.

I'm sure it would ruin his day if he found out you don't approve of one of his songs. I also love how you're telling everyone what "real country is" as well.. that you Hank?? If not then shut up and go get some singing and guitar lessons and show us what you think real country is.

nice to meet you Mrs. Church. Thanks for your amazing contribution to this discussion. It's much appreciated.

All I've seen you bring is how everyone out there are posers and only people who like real country music are allowed to have a say. What exactly do you think real country is? And were you even alive when these people were around?

you need to learn to read better then. I just posted on the last page what I think real country is and I've made several and I do mean several references to artists I consider real country. Within the last 8 or so posts I even posted two YouTube clips of artists I'm a big fan of. If you need help deciphering the big words (and I don't really use any), let me know and I'll be glad to help.

if you're too lazy to read then don't make assumptions as to what I post.

and before you spout off about how you've got better things to do, make sure you know what you're talking about before you make generalizations Mrs. Church.

Well, I'll be damned. I got it.

I finally got around to listening the Zac Brown Band's latest album. I really like their sound. I'm appreciating country more than ever since I left the South. Can't wait to get back.
