Country music thread

If you like traditional country, it doesn't get any better than Jamey Johnson. His newest album is pure gold.

I have high hopes for Ashley Monroe.

She's got Miranda backing her now so we'll see.

Does she finally have new stuff? She released a hit with Ronnie Dunn singing background vocals that was really good a few years ago but had nothing to follow it

Yep chief came out yesterday. I preordered it and it hasnt come in yet. Ec is one of few these days that knows what true country music is.

Drink a little drink smoke a little smoke is the dumbest song I've ever heard. Homeboy isn't bad, but like drink a little drink, it's a pop rock sound with someone singing with a country accent. It's not even remotely close to actual country music. Like Rascal Flatts with a little more edge.

Also real country music to me is more outlaw country thats why I said that. Jason aldean is the pop-country singer douche bag

So what you're saying is he's a sellout. Makes me want to listen to him less. You're saying he's the country version of John Mayer. I'll pass, I want someone who wants to sing country and make his name that way. At least Jason aldean gets it right about 1/2 the time.

Lol.. Dont know how what I said made you think hes a sellout. Btw eric church writes his songs. Aldean only "1/2" the time. I would love to know who you think is true country then.

George Strait has like 3 total songs he's written. He's still just about the definition of country music. Axle Rose wrote a lot of stuff, guess by your standard G & R was country.

And since you can't figure it out, I'll help you. He's a sellout because he releases pop rock garbage and, at least according to you, keeps his actual country music under wraps, a privilege only those that buy the album get to hear.

That's par for the course for all of Nashville once someone "makes it"

I'm not mad at you, just mad at country music industry I guess. If it's true that artists like Church (and as Davis said, most of the acts in Nashville) are making real country and those songs aren't getting released as singles, Nashville is really screwing up. I think that right now Miranda Lambert might be the best thing country has and I am and always have been a big fan. 3-4 years ago when she first came out she didn't get all the pub and had a super mini cult following. At that time a lot of acts were more traditional country. But now that almost everyone has gone to more pop and/or rock, Miranda has risen to the top, and she hasn't really changed much of her stuff. You would think record execs in Nashville would have figured that out and the real country music would be shining through.

What's really weird is that before I left for Afghanistan, it seemed a number of acts were coming on strong. Thompson Square, Easton Corbin, Lee Brice, Chris Young just to name a few. What happened the seven months I was gone?

They're probably getting the major label rebuild, now that they've shown they can be commercially viable.

And you asked earlier, while I can't say these are requirements per say, I would at least like to hear the steel guitar and/or fiddle in half your songs and your music can't be totally dominated by electric guitars for it to be real country. Again, that's not the end all answer, but it is a good place to start.

Well that would suck, especially since I think they already did the rebuild to Chris Young. I'm not a fan of "tomorrow " at all, and I'm pretty sure it's him singing it

I'll go ahead and apologize in advance if I toe the hipster music guy line here but, it really isn't that hard to find if you include things outside of what country music radio is pumping out when you say "today's music".

Brad Paisley, Jason Aldean, Chris Young, Blake Shelton and lots of others made their start with music with steel guitars and fiddles. Like JTD said, it's just that once they go mainstream, they move away from that sound.
