Country music thread

I've been wearing out Sam Riggs this week

Ive been trying to get back to country roots, not necessarily the roots of country, but MY roots in country.

late 70s stuff, and some great 90s stuff. 80s were hit and miss for me. Some great stuff, and some not so great stuff.

Had a chat with Darryl Worley this summer, my kid was opening for him, he says he has a complete album of "Old School Country" lined up, just waiting for the tide to turn back to that sort of music.

Hoping we can get there through guys like Stapleton.

Great voice

She's an incredible kid too. Im pretty lucky, from my former ladyvol rower, to my lilSongstress, and my 7 year old playground legend, Im a lucky dad.

Shes got some great covers on reverb

and we are putting together some originals, hoping to release in Feb or March. Her schedule at Tootsie's and Rippys might push that back a bit. But it will be out sometime this spring.

Listening to Josh Abbott Band, Randy Rogers and of course Pat Green sure makes it seem like I could live happily in Texas.

In a pickle, Eric church is coming to town, but in order to see him, I also have to pay to see Florida Georgia line.

He's got all his recognition now, but I'm still a giant Stapleton fan. When he comes up on my Pandora or on my iPod playlist, I'm as excited as if Jamey Johnson was playing. Traveller is good from start to finish, with a good mix of different sounds and lyrics that are tough to beat. And the radio stations are playing him here, but certainly not wearing him out.

Going to Nashville next month, should I visit the country music hall of fame, or the opry? I'm leaning towards the hall of fame.

Out of curiousity, why only one?

The time I went to the Opry, it was crazy expensive so we didn't do much. However, my cousin and I were crushing the quiz machine. An attendant showed us how to go down the service elevator, we just had to promise we wouldn't go on a stage. I was backstage, maybe 50 ft from "the circle". It was awesome

The price lol, it's a lot cheaper at the hall of fame, but the opry also has all the history, I wish I could both, though.

If money is the thing, I'd hit up the HoF and also go see the Ryman. That's where the real history is.

If you piece together some good lyrics, I'll give any song a shot.

"No I ain't afraid of dying, but what scares me to death, is meeting Jesus with whiskey on my breath..."

"Whiskey On My Breath" by Love and Theft is a song I can't stop listening to. The chorus harmonies will even give you a 90s Vince Gill feel. There's even a fiddle solo. Yes. A fiddle solo. On a song made for country radio. Remember somewhere in the early '00s when country just started to steer away from steel guitar, simple chords to just a twinge of a pop, but you could still put up with it? That's what Love and Theft do with the rest of their songs.

"Burning House" by Cam is as solid a song as I've heard in ten years.

"My Church" by Maren Morris. Holy f*** balls. She crushes it. I typically scoff at name dropping, but it fits with this song. Unfortunately, I listened to two of her other songs and they are nothing short of absolutely awful.
