F uuuuuu!

Just jealous that the man never leaves the state of Kentucky (almost). Very happy he's putting out a new album though, already preordered my vinyl copy.

New Appalachia obsession for me is Nick Jamerson:

Haven't heard of him, I'll check it out. If you like Kentucky my/Appalachia artist, check out the Jenkin twins. I went to school with them, they're really good.

I can actually more than stomach Midland's "Drinking Problem".

It's as if it rolled off an unused dusty shelf from 1994 in a Nashville music studio.

The new Isbell album is twenty times better than Stapleton's.

Ok, that might be harsh, but I'm severely underwhelmed with the Stapleton album. Seems too produced, not genuine enough and I hate that he went with such a harder, much more electric sound.

Isbell gets better with each album though.

Agree about Stapleton but not on Isbell. Not saying the new album isn't fantastic bc it is but just don't think it's better than his last two. I've listened to TNS more than a few times since I got it but I don't think I could count the amount of times I listened to Southeastern when that first came out. That said, it's still amazing and better than 99% of what else is out there.

There are three songs on Southeastern that top everything else imo, but first track to last Southeastern < Something more than free < Nashville Sound

I feel the exact opposite. The new isbell doesn't seem that special at all to me. "If we were vampires" is the only track I like.

I don't think I've ever had a song hit me as hard as this one did when it came out. I was in school, and had a friend who was going through the exact thing. It's really sad how some kids are treated

I like the enthusiasm!

And I agree, Purgatory does need to hurry up and get here. Universal Sound threw me off a bit bc the music was not exactly what I was expecting but after a couple more listens I was hooked.

Ikr, the violin though is great.

Good ones, and also to name a few:
Johnnie Cash
Don Williams
David Allen Coe

I was just telling my wife today my favorite year for country was '86. ETC, Keit Whitley, Exile, Gary Morris and alot of others. About '89-'90 country started to change over. I still like it but it's not what it used to be.

Having said that, I was a huge Hank Jr fan and I've read where the previous generation thought the same about him and others.

He's never recorded anything that wasn't pure radio country that I know of.

He's changed as the radio play has. But you're right, it's always been for radio. As "An American Soldier", I hope I never hear that song nor the stupid boot in your a** song again.

Based on titles alone (and that's probably as far as I can ever get because I won't be listening), this sounds more like goofy, fun songs than traditional country.

I meanwhile can't turn off Jamey Johnson. Hope he can start writing and recording new stuff again soon.
