Less then 3% of the population makes that. And I am willing to bet the vast majority of that are in their teens and living at home. This is not about helping the poor. It's 100% about paying back unions who have pay elevators tied to the minimum wage.I’m willing to concede that I think $15 is too high in large swaths of the country, and maybe not enough in others. $7.25 is also too low and has been for quite some time. This is what happens when legislators can’t work together to solve a problem consistently. You get wild swings when the power balance tips the other way.
Republicans have played the part of obstructionists on minimum wage for too long. Now, democrats overreact and overcompensate now that they have the numbers.
Probably because it’s an extremely popular bill (relatively speaking) and the republicans have refused to keep up with min wage for like 15 years, so they’ll look like ***holes for voting against it. I personally think it should be a separate bill, but I understand the method. Why is minimum wage part of a Covid relief bill?

16 year old kid living at home deserves $15hr?
Well maybe there should be a different minimum wage for kids living at home. Originally iirc the min wage was intended just for that. But a big % of people of majority ( no I didn’t look up the actual #) earn minimum wage. What is the annualized income level of poverty in your state. Say $30,000? $30,000 /2080 hrs per year = $15/hr
So what happens when gainfully employed people make less than poverty level. They need public assistance. Then they hear from the same objectors to a higher minimum wage that they are low life pos living off the teat of society
Frigging awesome. Now the Dems will be forced to ignore the parliamentarian to get what they want or it’s all out war with the progressives. Simply awesome. No Reconciliation for minimum wage
Senate Parliamentarian Rules Against Including Minimum Wage Increase in Covid Bill
Leftists think that because the cities they live in are shitholes (usually caused by their own beliefs) then everywhere in America must be a shithole.Local and state are much more in tune with the actual cost of living and labor pool in the specific area. $15hr nationwide is stupid, it does jack squat for NYC, SF and other areas like that while it overprices entry level labor in Bumfuzzle, AL.
Locally using an algorithm would be my choice... but for that to work it needs to be mandated, every 5 years or so.
