CP on taunting call

I thought the announcers said it was called on Bray for starring at the Vandy fans and not on CP?

They said Bray could have been called on the actual touchdown. He wasn't, but they were saying he needed to be careful because he "could" have been...

The rule is stupid, but it's a rule nonetheless

It didn't matter anyway because Fulton was like ten yards down the field. CP has been the biggest highlight reel and best player of the season.

I agree. We couldn't figure out which one it was called on because neither looked as if it should have been called.

He was totally showboating, and then he seemed to catch himself and try to stop, but it was too late.

Watching it live, especially after last week, you knew a flag was coming.

He turned around almost backwards to go into the endzone, that's taunting in every sense of the word.

Not that it matters, it was offsetting penalties, so the play never happened

That's exactly what I saw too. He tried to take it back but it was too late.

hell, maybe they should flag ESPN for showing Trey Burton highsteppin in Neyland 15 times a game in their promos.

the call was bs. last week was as well. the officials dont respect a lame duck coach and have been killin us since the SC game.

Dumb rule or not, he had it called against him last week so why even chance it last night?

Turning around to see what the flag was for before he got to the end zone? Really? Was somebody going to give him the signal of what the foul was just so he could see?

Vanderbilt declined the penalty on Patterson and accepted the ineligible down-field penalty.

It only makes sense that if you don't want an offensive player to taunt you, don't let him score. If you're on offense.. and you don't want a defensive player celebrating a pass break up, catch the damn ball!

The biggest issue I have with it is the double standard. If a defensive player makes a great tackle, he will sometimes stare the guy down for 4 or 5 seconds. Is that not the same thing? If a defensive player breaks up a long pass, he will sometimes emphatically signal incomplete to celebrate what he did. Is that not the same thing? People get excited. It happens. It's a stupid rule.

Haven't thought about it, but you are right on

during the play vs. after the play.

Players celebrate making a TD or first-down (signal first down) without penalty routinely. The difference is the taunt is taking place during the play.
IMO, there's no double-standard.

Again. The defensive guy does not taunt BEFORE the sack or int.

It's a stupid rule, and I believe CP.

CP is the man.

Too bad (for UT) he will be in the NFL next year.

I honestly enjoy watching a celebration after a score. It's good to see players get hyped up. Your traditionalists may say that it detracts from the game, but I say, let em get a bit excited, there's absolutely no harm in it.

Ryan Callahan ‏@RyanCallahan247

CP on taunting call: “I seen the ref had threw the flag in the backfield, so I was just trying to look back to see what the flag was for."

Grammar Police threw the flag all over that one. Yikes.

every single time a Defensive End makes a sack celebration they should flag him. It would take 2 weeks and about 300 penalties for people to tackle the QB, GET UP and walk back to the huddle....

I agree with you.

What most idiots don't realize is:

THEY CELEBRATE AFTER THE SACK. NOT DURING THE SACK.

The rule isn't taunting after the score.

Please, idiots, please.....

Learn the rule.

I hate the taunting rule too. But this rule is good. Score first, then celebrate.
