And for real, I encourage some of you to go over to www.blazertalk.com and at least read our forum. Believe it or not, I'm not the only Blazer fan in existence as some Bammers would like to make the world believe. :laugh1:

Those kids might have seen "hostile", but they haven't played infront of 107,000. Everyone has a little bit of butterflies when they play at Neyland. Even conference foes that are seniors feel it.

^ This is true. I think the largest crowd most of our guys have played in front of was 92,000 at UGA... of course they were sitting on their hands most of the game :D

I absolutely cannot wait to see this game. And it will be even better being on JPSports. I know it's not CBS, but I grew up an SEC fan (UAT to be exact), but now I absolutely cannot stand them because their alums go on sports talk radio and say UAB is a school for kids that cant get in to Alabama or Auburn (funny thing is, UAB has stricter admissions policies and is generally a more respected academic institution than either of those). Sept. 3 cant get here soon enough.

Greetings folks. Nice chitchat going about UAB-UT game. Cant wait to get to my seat in the stadium and watch the tussle. Let me congratulate you VOl fans on being civil in your treatment of Blazer85. He has done a good job so far of bringing you up to date on our team.
A minor correction, our O-line lost a 4 year starter, Andy Galloway, to graduation. The weakest part of most mid-lower levels teams, IMHO, is depth at the O-line, where quality players are really tough to get and having 2 deep is a luxury.

Ah, yes... forgot about Andy. We did, however, get some outstanding JUCO OL though that Watson expects to play a good bit.

I honestly think UAB will continue to rise and become a good sports school. They have the resources, location, and plenty of close by talented players to choose from. If they keep it up, Im sure a BCS conf. like the Big East will be looking at them to join.

An Alabama school in the Big East? Seems kind of out of a stretch of location... Although I'm sure they will have a welcome spot to join the SEC when UAT leaves.

I agree. There's certainly a LOT of talent in central Alabama (and Birmingham specifically). Just look at nearly any SEC team and you'll see players from Birmingham dotting just about every roster. If we can start convincing more of them to play for UAB, we'll be in good shape. Big East is a mess though... their conference schedule in basketball will be murder.

True... I'll stick with my argument that Alabama will leave and become a D-IA Independent leaving an open spot for UAB.

But it was only a joke though right? Havent heard anything on that, and cant see a reason why they would leave. Wishful thinking maybe :)

Anyone interested in the kind of problems UAB faces with local Bammer-dominated media can listen to this... just click the link  http://www.ethnomex.com/uab/stupidtalkshowhost.mp3

There's definitely some hatred there between UAB and UAT.

I heard that the other day - P*ssed me off totally. The Blazers have diehard fans despited idiotic viewpoints like that guy.

His argument of why play UAB when you could play USC, Okla, etc. is BS. Let's try Utah State, Western Carolina, MTSU, NIU, Southern Miss (the last two are in the same league as UAB). It amazing how the most arrogant (Got 12) fans in football won't take on all comers. Saying it's a lose/lose indicates you are scared of the outcome. If your school is so great you won't lose the game and you don't have to worry about losing recruits to UAB because you are so much better.

I usually make it to 2 (out of 6) Blazer football games and 3 or 4 B-ball games per year. Both teams have been playing solidly and the style (esp. the B-ball) is very entertaining.

I think losing Roddy White is going to be especially tough. He was money. The other guys (Chavez and Lindsay) showed potential but dropped too many IMHO.

On the flip side, Anderson(?) emerged as a bruising runner to complement Burks.

^Oh definitely UAT is afraid to play us. The guy is an absolute nut b/c he doesnt even CARE to know all the "big boys" that UAB has played. He simply chooses to ignore. When you talk smack and you actually know the facts, that's one thing... but he said we play schools like "Happy St" in our non-conf. schedule. Yeah right, get real... we play Oklahomas, Nebraskas, Floridas, Tennessees in our non-conf. UAT is the one playing Western Carolina and Utah St. Truth be known, UAB has a better record over the past 5 years than UAT. We've also, by far, played a more difficult out of conference schedule. It's just all talk and they know theyre scared of UAB.

Chavez dropped alot of passes... and that's odd b/c he was previously very reliable. But early in the season, he had a mild concussion I believe and from then on, he never seemed to be "all there" and dropped alot of passes. Chavez was a senior though.

Reggie Lindsey is quite good and will be the closet thing to a breakout WR for us. He caught our one TD pass against FSU. We're very deep at WR, but many of them are young. Nick Coon and Lance Rhodes (transfer from Arizona St) are a couple of other WR that could have a real impact.

And we have 3 backs that will definitely play. The bruiser back youre referring to is probably Corey White. We also have, as you mentioned, Dan Burkes as well as Norris Drinkard (who actually is our A-back) and Trey Chaney. Some shouldnt be misled to think we're just a passing team... though that is our bread and butter, each of our 3 primary backs average about 4-5 yards per carry (and that average doesnt go down much against our SEC competition).
