Have yall seen any of the recent articles regarding the large peer reviewed study (combination of many other clinical trials etc) which summarily concludes that SSRI drugs commonly known and prescribed 400% more than even in the 1980s DO NOT have any effect reducing depression? This includes prozac, zoloft, effexor, Paxil, all the commonly prescribed antidepressants. As of 2012, 11% of Americans aged 12 and over were on these drugs. Thats 1 in 9 people. There are also the clinical trials conducted by the manufacturers themselves which also showed little or no effect on reducing depression...prior to ever getting FDA approval or the massive marketing campaigns to doctors and patients alike.
It turns out that serotonin and depression do not have a causal relationship...so all these drugs folks have been taking to boost the serotonin levels in their brains, along with their side effects to include suicidal ideation, violence against others etc, were simply a new revenue stream for Big Pharma. Billion dollar pharmaceutical companies strike again. As someone who has struggled with depression, and has taken SSRI meds previously for years , all they did for me was make me numb. Never felt much of anything. Highs nor lows, which is a known side effect called "detachment"...and the reason that i quit taking them. A serious % of mass shooters have been on those SSRI drugs though, especially the teenagers. The studies linked above reference them. Looks like Big Pharm and their lobbyists have caused serious harm to this country yet again, with help from the FDA and politicians. Who knew?
