Charges Dismissed against ‘facilitator’ in home invasion-turned-murder of Memphis college student​

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Charges have been dismissed against the woman accused of acting as an accomplice in the murder of 22-year-old Rhodes College student Drew Rainer.

Raquel Lori Frye, 34, was charged with facilitation of: first-degree murder, aggravated robbery, especially aggravated robbery, especially aggravated kidnapping, especially aggravated burglary.

The murder happened during a home invasion in October 2021.

2 Memphians arrested in East TN human trafficking sting​


MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man and a woman from the Memphis area were among nine arrested during a human trafficking sting in East Tennessee over the weekend.

Vincent Billingsley, 30, of Memphis, was charged with one count of promoting prostitution and one count of simple drug possession.

Morgan Garrett, 38, of Cordova, is facing one count of promoting prostitution.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said special agents with TBI’s Human Trafficking Unit, the Hendersonville Police Department, the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office, members of the 18th Judicial Drug Task Force, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Office of 18th Judicial District Attorney General Ray Whitley were all involved in the undercover operation.

The TBI said the operation was aimed at addressing human trafficking in the Hendersonville area and identifying individuals seeking to engage in commercial sex acts with minors.


 

Senate approves resolution to investigate district attorneys​

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - The Tennessee Senate passed Senate Resolution 120 on Wednesday.

The resolution, sponsored by Sen. Brent Taylor (R-Memphis), calls for the Tennessee Supreme Court to establish a Judicial Review Committee to investigate three district attorneys general.

These include Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy, Davidson County District Attorney Glenn Funk and District Attorney Chris Stanford, who serves Warren and Van Buren counties.

The vote comes after ethics complaints filed against Mulroy were dismissed back in February.
