Criticism is fine, but support your Vols

This post is gonna fall on deaf ears, or blind eyes, but I feel like posting it and really don't care the backlash I'll undoubtedly get from some. As some of you know, I know a couple of the guys in the 2014 class, and we keep in touch...this was part of a text I just received.

Every time we lose it's bring back Bruce! We see and hear it all, and that's definitely not what we wanna see is y'all gonna turn on us when things go wrong! Part of the reason we decided to come is the great fans, we've been seeing a side that we don't like at all

I agree the fans is the reason why I came and also the coach! Coach Martin is a great coach, he may have had some losses but that doesn't mean he is a bad coach.

Coach Cuonzo is a great guy and great coach he's going to have success at UT. But every time they lose people always bash him and that's not helping the coaching staff or the players. I think there should be more encouragement from the fans

All 3 of those quotes are from different members of the 2014 class. I just thought I would remind people that recruits and commits do read these boards, and do pay attention. They're well aware of the struggles, but they're determined to come in and compete. All 4 members of this class are the type to fight you for 40 minutes, and who hate to lose more than anything.

Like I said, I know some of you will bash and feel free to do so, but I just figured I would let some of you know how the current commits feel.

They're well aware of the struggles, but they're determined to come in and compete. All 4 members of this class are the type to fight you for 40 minutes, and who hate to lose more than anything.

I think the fact that you have some connections to this next class bolsters your credentials. I agree with you 110%, thanks for sharing.

Didn't do it to boost credentials, and not what it's about at all. Just hate to see kids viewing our fan base the way they currently see it. Tennessee has one of the best fanbases in the country, unfortunately that can be just as bad as it is good.

Maybe that will be the group that proves to the fans how much they hate losing. It's hard watching current talent being wasted.

Don't know why anyone would bash you for posting that.

I'm sure these kids hear all this stuff and it sucks for them. I think it's dumb that anyone is screaming for Bruce back after every loss. I don't think he's coming back.

That said, I'm not going to sit here and not comment on the underachievement of our program just because some recruits read some Vols boards. I wish everyone would do it in a respectful way but we can't control everyone. But most can be critical in a mature manner hopefully.

Definitely not about credentials, but you garner a certain amount of respect from many posters IMO because of your dedication and frequency posting. I'm just saying that this statement coming from you means more than if say I said it. The first thing people would think is that I'm a troll with no actual connections to recruits. I feel like that isn't people's first thought with you.

Regardless, good post, I appreciate it.

These recruits also need to learn mental toughness. You can't let it bother you. Got to move on and work on proving people wrong. Maybe it's not CCM. Maybe this team can't won't gel. Idk. CCM certainly can't hit wide open layups or free throws. Are dumb turnovers the coaches fault?

Your point is well made, but I would urge any player or recruit who thinks they may be discouraged or put off by a subset of disgruntled fans to steer clear of message boards like this. Short of programs that are perennially in the Top 15, I doubt you could find a message board that didn't have a group of fans who (for whatever reason) want to be negative and would love nothing better than to fire the current coach.

I'm not saying we couldn't do with a little more positivity around here (myself included), but it's probably not going to happen on a large enough scale to drown out the negavols unless we're performing at a high level. That's just reality.

Agree on all points. They get there's frustration, but they also think people are turning their backs quickly and fear one bad game it's the same for them. Look at the criticism Maymon's getting after last night. Look at stuff Hubbs has had said about him. Jarnell stokes is just now starting to get some appreciation. Jordy Mac still gets called names on off nights.

All fan bases are like that, it's nothing new.

I don't see why any kid would care about what people say on a message board. I don't care about the ignorant things recruits say via social media.

Bto, some of the debates are enjoyable and you seem like a decent dude. But I gotta say, you are a grown man and a huge UT fan. I don't think you should be texting recruits and discussing UT sports or the coach.

I would agree that criticizing the players shouldn't happen. They are young men and it isn't their fault. But the loses and criticism has to fall on someone, and IMO, it should by CCM's shoulders. After all, he is getting paid, handsomely, to coach and win. Especially with all of the talent that is on this team. It is very disheartening to think about how, potentially, bad this team could be next season. If our beloved Vols do not make the NCAA tournament this season, then next season is going to look very bleak.
