Crucify me, but. . .

If you really want a benchmark for someone who was THAT good but was still THAT unassuming I suggest you start with Barry Sanders.

I understand and somewhat agree with what you're saying BPV, but he's not the one that paints himself as the anointed one. The media does that. He knows he's not perfect and he's just himself. He's a good kid who has fun on the football field, even if sometimes he takes it too far.
I think that's true. The media started it and now he simply plays to it.

he just doesn't deal with it one way or the other. In the grand scheme of things, the only things I see wrong with him would be his sometimes erratic accuracy and that he has a slower release than most NFL qbs. Great guy who is fully committed to his faith and a guy who most athletes should act like. Is he the second coming though? No.

I'm with JayTrain though. I think he'd make a fabulous Chris Cooley like Hback.

He's a great guy and all but I just don't like him. The way he talks sometimes makes it sound like its all about him and he is coaching the team. He could afford to be more humble.

I guess I'm fine with the cockiness because I was always of the thought that if you didn't have a little bit of cockiness you didn't have the confidence to win.

Peyton has that cocky attitude on the field. I'd like to say he turns it off like Tebow does, but some of his media comments prove otherwise.

(and I can't wait for the Peyton supporters to bash that statement, even though it's completely true)

If you are saying you are doing local missionary work, I applaud you. I do some, and wish I could travel to do more, but family obligations have also kept me from my desire to do so. However, I hold no grudge with those who can and do. Publicity is a necessary way to gain awareness to causes and thus obtain funding to make missionary work possible. Publicity just for ones own PR is despicable.

My admiration for TT is primarly based on his on the field work, the other is just an added bonus. Are you not judging him as you say I am you? If I have misinterpreted, I am sorry.

in no way do i feel that i was judging you. you sir were the one who took a personal jab at me and i was just trying to convey my point that not everyone has the luxury of being able to go to a third world country and do missionary work. i have a two year old at home who demands my constant attention and it is hard to do a lot of things much less leave her sight. after all there are a lot more things that can be done to improve others' quality of life than missionary work overseas. i was pounced on by about 5 people the other night and none of them were able to fully understand what i was saying. my gripe is that no athlete should be elevated above any other just because they do missionary work. he should not recieve a bunch of awards for being a good human being. that is not being humble imo. but in today's world that is an impossibility especially when there is so much manlove for a guy like tebow.

i just took personal offense from the way you posted toward me and i felt that i needed to defend myself. i don't like the way people continually get jumped on here for stupid things or just because they don't have 1,000 or more posts that they are wrong. we have all posted something before that not everyone has agreed with, but we don't have to be pricks towards each other. i am no longer upset and if you are not than we can agree or disagree. no hard feelings either way i hope.

I would love to hear the explanation of the "more humble" part.

If UT had a Tebow type player that had led us to a ton of wins and a MNC, a lot of people on this board who are now downing him would be praising him to no end. I'm a pretty laid back person, yet when I'm at the game or watching UT play on the tube, I get fired up! High fives, fist pumps etc.... so the fact Tebow showed a little emotion toward a trash talking opponent doesn't bother me in the least. Will Tebow be a NFL QB? I don't know nor do I care, but I am amazed at his desire and leadership and give credit where credit is due. The kid is one of the very best college players I've ever watched play, period.

Tebow is clearly a great college player, maybe the best I've seen since Herschel Walker, but I will stay this: the constant preening and playing to the crowd that he does is some Grade A douchebaggery. You keep hearing how about how humble he's supposed to be, but then you see him prancing around like Mark Gastineau after he picks up a first down. Uh huh.

Is it possible that Tebow is hiding his Gastineau mullet?

Nah, the inventor of the forward pass threw a better ball the first time he tried it.

Yes, Walter Camp threw a good pass for a touchdown in the 1876 Princeton-Yale game. The refs had to flip a coin to see whether it would count.

I doubt very many truly dislike Tebow or are jelous. I know that I would get sick of the manlove that Tebow is shown even if it were a UT player. Some of my more reasonable Gator friends even get sick of it. There's no need for the media to elevate any player to God-like status. If the player deserves it then the fans will do that on their own. As long as there is no playoff in college football then we will have to deal with man-crush infatuations like this because the media outlets have to sell the sport to the casual viewer. Without overhyped players like Tebow the ratings would suffer. College football really needs to get away from the pageantry and popularity contests that have always plagued it.

If Vlad the impaler led us to a ton of wins and a MNC (what's the 'M' for?) I'd be praising him.

"He's a great player, and sure, I wish he didn't do quite so much impaling, but overall, he's a winner, and a pretty nice guy."

bingo.

Stafford is projected on a bunch of mock draft boards in the top 5. Tebow (assuming he would have come out) wouldn't have been in the first round in most of those.

Draft Countdown - 2009 NFL Mock Draft

FOX Sports on MSN - NFL Draft - 2009 NFL Draft: First-round mock

2009 NFL Draft - NFL Mock Drafts

And? I still don't see the correlation between scouts' opinions on Stafford's draft ranking and their opinions on Tebow. It's a total non sequitur.

Why not... the same NFL scouts that are ripping Tebow are some of the sameone's projecting Matthew Stafford as a top 5 pick in this years draft. That makes no sense...
