What'd you shoot?
When you're in east TN, which is your favorite course?
Graysburg is my favorite course. Honestly, it’s my favorite course anywhere. Due to my ankle/foot injury plus the pandemic, I haven’t played since January. Played Crockett’s Ridge today. Two birdies, four pars, a few bogeys and quite a few holes we shouldn’t talk about.

He’ll eat potatoes and if you essentially make it disappear in a soup he will eat that. That’s about it. Normally his wife eats with us, so I can make veggies for her and myself, but she was working tonight
Certainly acceptable when dining with friends. As you know, I’m more of a vegetable girl, and have been known to stuff grilled salmon in my purse at a dinner party before. I know, a travesty. Mostly, it’s all about who you’re dining with.

I was a member of Graysburg for a long time, starting back in the early 80s when the trees on the old front 9 (same side of road as clubhouse) were saplings. Fred Stewart was always good to me. His son Mark, who was the pro, died a while back, I saw. I had a junior membership there and when I broke my leg, Fred extended my membership a year. I guess Fred's still alive. I haven't been down there in a couple of years. That's my favorite course, too, but that new 9 "the Lakes" can suck it. HA
Edit: That might not be the name of it. I might be getting it confused with the new 9 at Tri-Cities. They both can suck it. HA

Crockett's Ridge is OK. There are some holes there I hate. When they first opened the course, they had a lot of rocks in the fairway covered up by grass. It was Old Island then. I haven't been over there in a few years. It seems like they have renumbered the holes a lot. The closest I ever came to an ace was on (I guess it's) #2, if #1 is the dogleg left now. If not, it's #11, I guess.

Before my wife got sick, I played every day pretty much. I have a clubmaking shop in my garage, but I haven't made anything much in probably 10 years. I still play with my Ping Zing knockoff irons, when I play. HA

Edit: Roan Valley?
Is it still called Roan Valley?
I see it's RedTail now.
I do like RedTail. I’m from Johnson City and stay in Kingsport. I was coming from Charlotte so I took the scenic route through Blowing Rock and Boone. Watauga Lake is my favorite place on earth, no exaggeration. Would love to retire there. Sorry if the pics made you think that’s where I was

I haven't played at RedTail, and in about 1981 or so we played a high school match at Roan Valley. I don't know how much it's changed.
Up until my wife got sick, we drove up to Shirley's to eat there near Watauga Lake on the road to Boone. Best country ham, I think.

Fred gave me and my buddies the HS and college players rate all through college. I paid $450/year for a membership. We played 5-6 days a week during the summer. I love that place. Chimney top isn’t near as exciting or fun as knobs and fodderstack, but every once in awhile, it’s fun to play because there are some holes you can really try to do amazing things on.
I remember the Old Island days and would recommend you giving it another shot if you get the chance. The course has matured and can be a lot of fun. 15 and 16 are the only holes I don’t care for. The Crossings in Jonesborough is another fantastic layout and is fun to play. Elizabethton is a lot of fun, but you better bring your A game if you want to come out alive. Tri Cities ticked me off years ago when I still lived here and I have no desire to go back. But yea, Lakes is one of the nines there. I know Woods is another, but I forget the other.

I’m visiting Blowing Rock with a friend next week and have already set up Shirley’s as breakfast!
