Culinary, Arts, Thread.

Fred gave me and my buddies the HS and college players rate all through college. I paid $450/year for a membership. We played 5-6 days a week during the summer. I love that place. Chimney top isn’t near as exciting or fun as knobs and fodderstack, but every once in awhile, it’s fun to play because there are some holes you can really try to do amazing things on.
I remember the Old Island days and would recommend you giving it another shot if you get the chance. The course has matured and can be a lot of fun. 15 and 16 are the only holes I don’t care for. The Crossings in Jonesborough is another fantastic layout and is fun to play. Elizabethton is a lot of fun, but you better bring your A game if you want to come out alive. Tri Cities ticked me off years ago when I still lived here and I have no desire to go back. But yea, Lakes is one of the nines there. I know Woods is another, but I forget the other.
Pines, I think. It's the old front 9. There was a hog lot to the right of the #1 fairway (condos now).
I like the Crossings, too.
You are spot on about Elizabethton. We used to play them in HS matches there and were unfamiliar with the course. Brutal times. HA
Yep, Fred is good people, in my opinion. A lot of people don't like him because he fusses about slow play. But he's right. I do, too. HA

I thought it was pines but didn’t want to be wrong. Souce would’ve showed up to say something.
I love Fred. They’re really great people, but I guess I’ve never once been accused of slow play, so I’ve stayed on his good side I guess. Haha.
I’ve been told that Pine Oaks is actually worth playing these days if your short on time and in JC. Seems phony to me. I don’t like Meadowview. At all. I’ve only played Baileyton once (does it still exist?) Used to like River Trace (it might not even exist either) and apparently I was one of the only weirdos that liked Andrew Johnson. The JC Country Club is a fun old school track.

As far as I know, Baileyton is no longer a course. It sold a while back.
River Trace is the one that used to be a 9-hole course called Nolichucky, I think. I never played it as River Trace. It also sold and is being parceled into housing lots.
I liked AJ ok.
I don't like McDonald Hills.
JCCC is classic, true.
For the amount of play it gets, Pine Oaks has very good greens. I don't mind it. I was a member there for 3-4 years. I like the Back 9 a lot, but most people don't.
Edit: JC could've pumped some $ in and kept Buffalo Valley open had they wanted to do it.

The one trick with our Graysburg memberships was that we weren’t supposed to be able to use them on holidays and weekends. Fred always told us we could be dew busters because he knew no one was going to catch us. Would even figure out creative ways for us to get out there on business tournament days.

Man, when I was 17-18 years old, we could walk all 18 down there in 3.5 hrs as a foursome. Now, it takes a lot of foursomes in carts that long to play 9. It's crazy.

I used to like Buffalo Valley quite a bit as long as I had enough to bug repellent to keep the gnats at bay. The layout of Pine Oaks was perfect honestly. The course was just in awful shape IMO. Don’t know that I ever played McDonald Hills. What’s the course in Morristown that had 3 par fours, 3 par fives and 3 par threes each nine? My uncle loved that course and we played it quite a bit.

Was it StoneGate or something like that? I'm not sure it's still there.

Yeah we walked every time. Played 27 quite a bit and probably 36 once or twice a month. One time we went crazy and played 45. Broke down and got push carts for the final nine. We were a foursome that never took longer than 3.5 hours. We even toyed with 3 hour rounds if it was the right group of us playing. Simpler days.

Certainly acceptable when dining with friends. As you know, I’m more of a vegetable girl, and have been known to stuff grilled salmon in my purse at a dinner party before. I know, a travesty. Mostly, it’s all about who you’re dining with.
When dad’s garden is in full operation, I can eat maybe a 2 oz piece of chicken and then just load up on veggies

I wish I was a week or two earlier, but the colors and these mountains still took my breath away as I came through. I mean they always do, but this time was special. Longest stretch I’ve ever gone without getting to see these mountains.
I hear ya Brother........
