Culinary, Arts, Thread.

I'm mostly against the antiquated pay models and/or manipulative business practices that make tipping necessary or expected. Putting a tipping option on a iPad because you know most people won't choose "none" while looking a cashier in the eye? Threatening your customers with sub-par service for not tipping at checkout, before service is even rendered (DoorDash)? I just avoid those services/businesses altogether. I'm happy to leave a generous tip at a restaurant (a merit-based reward), but I'm not paying what's tantamount to an additional service charge regardless of who pockets the cash.

I did have an experience with the "automatic 18% for parties of 6 or more ". It didn't effect me personally, because I got my food. My wife's family met at cheddars for Christmas dinner, and the waitress was awful. She didn't write anything down, said she didn't have to. Out if about 12, only 2 if us got our food right, and 2-3 never got their food at all, even after going and talking to someone. After she brought what plates she did, we never saw her again, no refills, nothing. Someone else brought our bills, and the ones who didn't even get their food was charged full price, plus tip. They finally got a manager, and he took the tip off our bill, and their order they didn't get. I didn't feel bad about not tipping for that one. Me and Tiffany had a bad experience years ago, girl even cussed when I asked for a refill, got both orders wrong also. She lost her tip for the cussing, she didn't directly cuss me, but it was directed that way.

I don't ever feel bad if someone else in our party has an incorrect or missing order when mine is correct. They can just watch me eat. If it is my wife or daughter, then they can share off of my plate while waiting.

I'm 50% Native American so I'm conflicted about a holiday partially based on a highly inaccurate, sanitized, and whitewashed story to cover up the atrocities, genocide, and forced deportation of millions of Natives.

And steak tastes much better than turkey.
Sorry for your loss.
