Cuonzo made the Hot Seat list...

There are much worse names on this list than Cuonzo. And honestly, I don't see a drastically better hire with the exception of Pearl (pipe dream). Give me Pearl or give me death cause Tennessee basketball is dead without Bruce Pearl. If we ain't bringing him home, might as well keep Cuonzo.

Man I agree 100% with you. If we can't get Pearl back we might as well stick it out with Martin. I just don't think we can get a coach that's really any better than Martin. Our BB program died when Pearl left.

The entire history of Tennessee men's bball has been a giant yawn. Pearl has been the only brief bright spot.

Josh is shooting 0.415 beyond the arc and Jordan is shooting 0.383 yet Josh has shot 65 times from there and Jordan 162. Figure that one out!
Remember the stat - Tennessee was 17 of 35 in the two road wins and 14 of 76 in the four losses from beyond the arc! Shut Stokes down inside and let them shoot. If they are cold, chalk up a L.
Common sense tells you that the more shot attempts one takes, the lower their %'s are likely to be. McRae has shot nearly 3 times as many shots as Richardson and is only 3% lower...I'd say that's pretty good.

It's like me shooting 2 free throw, making them and saying I shoot 100% and am better than you because you only made 9 of 10 and are at 90%. Doesn't make sense.

Finally...as BTO said...none of this would matter if only we would run the freaking 1-3-1!!

Nope, I'm saying because he's on a list that has nothing to do with the AD's opinion doesn't mean he is getting the can.

This I agree with. Although it is no secret that Hart is watching him very closely and will continue to moniter his progression through the remainder of this season. CCM knows what he has to do to keep his job and Hart has told him this as recent as last week. If Martin does not make it into the tourney then he is gone. If he does make it in even if he limps in then Hart will retain him for another year but with no extension.

So Hart will bring Martin back with no extension?

Interesting.

Cuonzo is the best coach on that list. Eh.. Maybe behind Travis Ford haha. Honestly, it just shows you how much our fanbase is obsessed with Bruce. Martin really isn't that bad and I'm sure most SEC schools would love to hire him - he just isn't anything like Bruce.

Most sEC schools would love to hire him?? Maybe as an assistant coach, but that's about it.

Doesn't he have 2 years left on the contract? Why would he need an extension? Would you give him one?

I believe they did not give him an extension at the end of last season. He has 1 year (next year) left on his contract. I suspect Hart & Co. are waiting to see how the season plays out relative to any contract discussions.

Yes. He would bring him back without one

That would be pretty stupid. Without an extension he cannot recruit because it makes him appear on the hotseat, so it sets him up for failure.

The only real choices here are:
1. Let him go.
2. Give him an extension.

Anything else sets up failure and hurts the program as a whole.

If Cuonzo Martin became a free agent today would he get hired as a head coach before next season? If so, would it be at a better or worse job than UT?

Are you saying he's not getting one, or hart has told him he may not get one?

To me that's basically leaving him out there to hang, might as well make a move. You're not gonna have a 2015 class with a coach, coaching on an expiring contract.

This, I have a hard time imagining hart bringing him back and not giving an extension.

Not really. He is still within contract. Hart is a very smart individual who knows what he is doing. If he gave Martin an extension he has to worry about a larger buyout if he makes the move to fire him after next yr given the fact he makes it through this year. Thing is both Martin and his agent wanted an extension after last year and Hart told him no but gave him a 50,000 raise. He will not get one this yr either if he is retained

Hart has left the door open by saying you mY not get one if you stumble into the tourney. I would find it hard pressed for Hart to fire him with Martin making the tourney but their is that realm of possibilty that he does not get an extension

If we do part ways with Martin I'd like to see us and I know people hate duke, but I'd like to go after Steve wojakowski(spelling) he has been at duke forever. I know he has no head coaching experience but he has to know something working under coach k not to mention he is a big recruiter for duke

Will be interesting to see what happens. If he makes the dance you either fire him or extend him IMO, I don't understand hurting the program by avoiding what would apparently be the inevitable.

Not saying you're wrong, but most people thought the same thing about Wade Houston. It's as big a crapshoot as hiring a mid-major guy, IMO.
