Cuonzo made the Hot Seat list...

This is one of the worst jobs to coach at IMO. It's really really hard to replace the dynasty that Bruce left behind. Martin won't get hired at a university with better facilities or resources, but he would get hired at a university that had his support. Support of the coach > Facilities/resources. Ask Ben Howland how support carries you a long way.

If you're talking about a 'better job' in terms of a school with less pressure and more fan support, then yes...I think he could land that at Appy St or any other mid-major type job.

IMO, that's not what we're talking about in terms of what a 'better job' is. He's not going to end up at another university in a power conference making equal or more $.

Yup, the legend of Bruce grows.

I'm waiting to hear the Pearl to UK rumors and Cal bolting for the NBA this year.

LOL. There are already rumors about Cal and the Knicks.

I think Auburn could be open, although Cal is lobbying hard for Barbee to keep his job. On Mike and Mike the other day, he said that Barbee should get COY in the SEC. I don't believe Georgia fires Fox, and Alabama is up in the air.

I'm wondering what kind of reaction would happen here if Pearl isn't at UT next season (either due to Martin not being fired or the admin passing on him) and one or more other jobs in the SEC come open and yet no one hires Pearl; and he lands no job at another power conference.

It seems to be a forgone conclusion that Pearl is going to be either at UT or another SEC school next season.

He is only on the hot seat if he fails to make the NCAA Tourney. I would think he would understand that was certainly the result he had to achieve with this team. He even named this team tougher breed. That meant winning over twenty games and getting in the NCAA. Failure to do that of course means we should make a change.

I'm not convinced just making the NCAAT is enough. If we barely sneak in (which is looking like best case scenario being realistic) and we lose the first game by 25+ in a game like Florida where we never showed up, I can still see him being in trouble.

I in no way think just making the NCAAT should guarantee him a fourth year. I can understand that the reality is it probably will, but it shouldn't be accepted. If we make the NCAAT and he wins at least 1 game, then I have a hard time arguing he should be fired.

I saw grant has a contract through 2019, have to imagine that includes a large buyout. Add in the recruiting class he's got coming in and I think he likely returns.

I'm interested to watch it play out to say the least.

He even named this team tougher breed.

This statement portrays the dichotomy that exists with CCM, IMO. He talks constantly about being 'tough' and 'aggressive.'

Now, maybe the guys play pick-up football games during practice and he's talking about the hits that happen there, or maybe they have a boxing ring in practice and go at it there. I'm hoping that's what he's referring to because in no way, shape or form does this team look 'tough' or 'aggressive' to me on the basketball court. Making it your go-to 'slogan' for the team and then looking the opposite on the floor doesn't do him any favors in the fan support department.

I think they have some mentally weak players, but being one of the nations best rebounding teams and constantly being more physical down low than our opponents fits that slogan IMO.

A guy like Moore sprinting down the court, blocking a shot and crashing into fans is what I think he has in mind with that slogan. Unfortunately not everyone plays like Moore, or Stokes.

I think I can confidently say that his first team played that way in the second half of the season. I remember thinking that the light bulb came on, and they played well down the stretch against UF twice and UConn. Played very physical. I don't believe McRae fits that slogan, but Stokes does. I believe we have finally seen the power struggle between this team's best players, and CCM let it go on too long. It is the coach's job to figure it out, but maybe they will finish strong.

The difference between CCM and CBP is CM struggles in close games. How many close games have we won? Bruce seemed to always find a way to win. Its almost like if the game is close at the end we choke. Anybody remember the end to the Memphis game 1 vs 2? Thats how you win a close game and I think that is one of the biggest factors.

We're number one!!!!!!!

Martin should be the first coach fired.

I agree with everything you say with the exception of ' making it your go-to 'slogan' for the team and then looking the opposite on the floor doesn't do him any favors in the fan support department'....Martin, like so many other coaches can throw something up on the wall and in more cases than not 'it sticks' regardless of the success or failures...

Because that's what you want to happen.

Even if Pearl isn't hired next season, 90% of Vol fans what the bum in your avatar fired.

You want to keep the bum.
Guy may be a lousy coach, but he's not a bum in any sense of the word.
That terminology would fit a person of your class and maturity.

Disagree (to an extent) with the first 6 words, but definitely warranted a like the rest of the way.

Maybe you should first get a general clue as to what you're even talking about. BTO has repeatedly stated his position and "keeping the bum" isn't it.

Could be, but perhaps CCM went into this season with one cheek on the seat. IMO, Hart not giving him a contract extension last year is not BAU for a coach in good standing.
