me wonder what our situation would be like had he been hired in 2009 or 2010 instead of Kiffin and Dooley. Gotta say that I bet our situation would be pretty good....(not saying I don't like Butch)

Cutcliffe wanted to bring his own staff and not inherit any of Fulmers current staff. However; I can only recall one person remaining from the Fulmer staff that was also on the Kiffin staff.....

Mute point!

I, personally, think that Cutcliffe did a good job at Ole Piss when he was there.....

If I recall correctly, Lance Thompson, was the one who worked on both Fulmer & Kiffin's staff. Lance should have gotten the D. Co ordinator position but he didn't and he left...

I think Cut would have been great here, especially if he could have hired Chief back. That being said, Duke is doing well, but it's taken him, what, 6 years to get them where they are now? Nobody here has that kind of patience.

True but he could Duke is a longer haul than UT as far as climbing the ladder, recruiting etc.

Cutcliffe did a great job at Ole Miss for a few years. The year after Eli graduated, Ole Miss lost several games(seems like about 8), but by just a few points. The A.D. or the administration demanded that Cutcliffe shake up his staff, and fire asst coaches. Cut stated that they were not the problem, and refused to fire them. Cutcliffe was then fired himself.

Kiffin hired Lance away from Saban at Bama. He was not part of Fulmer's staff.

Cutcliffe is an excellent offensive coordinator, one of the best QB coaches in college football and he's done a good job at Duke. I think a lot of people thought he wasn't dynamic enough to recruit here. Certainly, beating some of lower- and mid-level teams in the ACC is not the same as trying to beat florida, georgia, bama every year--three of top 10 programs in the country every year. That is what makes the UT rebuilding job so damn hard. He would have been better than Dooley--that much we know--and he would have made Bray better. Water under the bridge now.

Would have been a better fit and probably would have done better. He couldn't get players at Ole Miss though. That's why they eventually fired him..
