Definitely two of the best college pitchers in the game in awhile. That's the biggest reason these two teams are where they are. Now Florida don't have a pitcher like these two but there really good. LSU is going have it's work cut out for them to match Florida pitching without Skenes. Wouldn't surprise me to see Skenes in game 3 if they can get it there. Great game !!!Best college pitching performance I have ever seen. LSU beats Wake Forest 2-0 in a walk off game B11
It's weird. I googled it and it said the pick was traded from the Wizards to the Bulls to select JP, but the NBA site lists him drafted by the Celtics with no trade listed. So I'm confused.
I understand and get what your saying but most of the NIL money will go to Football it's the cash cow. Basketball would be next and whether we like it or not Baseball is only third in pecking order here at Tennessee.Assuming the rumors are true about our incoming QB, when it’s his time to shine, do you want us to get tagged with that slogan? I don’t think it is true, btw.
I really believe Julian's talents will shine in the NBA,we all know how much they stress defense lol and more of a spread out game lots of get it and go. I love Rick Barnes and what he has brought to Tennessee but I think it's hard for players to think offense when he stresses defense so much and if you mess up your sitting but he has led us to multiple NCAA tourneys in a row so I'm happy.I believe the NBA doesn't officially recognize the trade until some paperwork is finalized, and picks are flying around on draft night, but essentially these trades are done deals
He'll have to get a lot stronger and develop a much better handle.I really believe Julian's talents will shine in the NBA,we all know how much they stress defense lol and more of a spread out game lots of get it and go. Basically, it sounds like we had a team with a couple of guys getting some NIL money while the rest of the team was getting none or very little. Certainly can see how that would strain a clubhouse.I see, okay, so are you saying you can’t pay the incoming freshman, some of who you’re trying to keep from going to the draft and in addition the transfer portal players looking to upgrade their draft stock after you just signed, the year previously, rising sophomores for instance get nothing?
I guess, I don’t see how you structure that bargain. In other words, Maui gets whatever he gets and Kaveras Tears, for example gets no help? I feel really dense right now.
This is the game now. NIL and the portal. I’m tired of the arguments for or against it. Leave that to the people who can actually do something about it. But for now, teams need to understand the game, or get left behind.I, as a Vol Fan, take issue with the “best team money can buy” junk. Mostly, I don’t think it’s true, but if it is…it’s because UT and the NIL folks spend it elsewhere. In other words, what value does the administration believe baseball brings?
Jay Johnson went to the postgame tonight and started recruiting portal players, by mentioning three players he brought in via the portal. That’s a little crass for my taste, but if that’s the game, we better start playing, and quit whining.
Yeah. I'm gonna swallow hard and pull for the corn dogs in this one, too. I'll just imagine that it was us that got skenes and tank out of the portal and we're facing off against UF.Geaux Tigers.
Was really hoping it didn't come to an all SEC final, but I really do not want to see Florida win another one of these.
Just about every game at the CWS has been great, but this one took it to another level! That Lowder kid is special. What a treat to have him and Skenes on the mound in an unbelievable game!Oh yeah, @TigerMan congrats on the win, good luck the rest of the way. That was an epic game!
Have no problem with NIL,I just hate it for the young men who committ to the University out of high school and are told you will get your chance, and we all know they get told this. Then get recruited over because Joe Blow is in the Portal how much will it take to get him. Do you think it's fair to these kids then we wonder why they leave. This is the game now. NIL and the portal. I’m tired of the arguments for or against it. Thanks to Skip Bertman, LSU will always put a huge emphasis on baseball. We may not treat it the same as football, but it’s pretty damn close. Jay Johnson came in, understood what the game is now, backed by massive support from the administration, and this is where we are. Playing for a NC in his second year.
Now, I think it’s a very tall task to take two from Florida at this point. But if the ride ends here, I’ll be pretty content on where we’re at as a program with Johnson at the helm. Disappointed for sure, but very content. Who knows though… I wasn’t confident we’d get past WF, so maybe I’ll be surprised!

I get it. I’m both for and against NIL. Which is really me just saying, yes, players deserve to make money, but not without regulations across the board to preserve fair and equitable competition.Well, @TigerMan , I think you could understand how baseVol fans would be disappointed by this turn of events. Fans like @vol66 have been dutifully supporting the baseVols through a long dark period. Then, just when we emerge from famine, NIL appears to buttress traditional powers like LSU and present an obstacle. We realize that this is the world we live in, and I myself don't really have a problem with NIL, but one could understand how we'd not be very excited about the ramifications thus far.

Tigerman I told you a lie I'm sorry,I always root for LSU when you guys play ALABAMA in football I pull for anybody that plays A Saban led teamI get it. I’m both for and against NIL. My hope is they don’t feel compelled to play Nico, that Joe takes the reins and negotiates the trials required to get them to the playoffs. Long season. I doubt seriously Heup will play anyone based on NIL. He’s in it, to win it.I think NIL is a good thing for the players but it should be a legitimate thing where they are paid for the use of their Name, Image or Likeness and not paid to play. But as they say, you can't put the toothpaste back in the tube or genie back in the bottle. It is here to stay and the man with the money will win the prize or get real close. Now, who has the money? In the long run, every significant player coming in will get money so it will equal out. I still don't see in football where you can pay a kid like Nico the money being thrown out without him playing this year. I don't see how you can invest that much money in a player and them just spend the year on the bench learning rather than playing. If he is worth that amount of money, he should be playing. Just My Opinion. No dog in this hunt for football.
What’s bad business for one isn’t the same as the other. My point was perhaps in CTV’s eyes it wasn’t worth going back to the well for more $ for him or he knew it couldn’t get it done anyway from the NIL side cause we’re just not going to lay out that kind of money for baseball. If for example, our total NIL “budget” for baseball is $2.5M and Skene’s needs $2M to make it work then maybe we didn’t see the value in allocating 80% to one guy and the potential impacts that has on enticing other guys to come on board, stick around, locker room issues etc. If LSU‘s budget is $10M then 20% of the budget has less of an impact on everyone else, there’s still $ to go around. It’s no different than thinking about you allocate your 11.7 scholarships. If you give 75% to one guy and everyone has to be on a minimum of 25% scholarship (I believe that’s the minimum) then 75% to one guy eats up a total of 3 potential guys. So you weigh out, what has the opportunity to have a bigger impact on the program, short and long term, 3 solid guys or 1 can’t miss/generational talent guy at the expense of the other 3? So we either couldn’t pony up the additional $ or decided to allocate the same total $ in a different way.Look man, you do know this is the CWS right? It’s not like any team has been tearing it up offensively. This is what happens when the best 8 teams in the country get together for a little tournament! Nothing is easy.
As far as Skenes goes, are you seriously saying that recruiting him was “chasing bad business”??? I mean, I try to be as respectful as I can on message boards (especially on another team’s board), but damn! That might be the dumbest thing I’ve read in quite some time! I thought calling WF and LSU frauds was actually kind of funny, but this comment about Skenes is just downright foolishness.

If Skenes’ $ keeps us from getting the other 3 transfers or a FR or 2 do we end up where we did? We don’t know for sure who’s getting what NIL and what the “ifs” would’ve been. But I personally think if we could’ve used X $’s and got Skenes only or used X and got Ahuna, Merrit, and Denton the $ was more widely spent on the latter scenario and that it likely yields better results. We’ll never know if it came down to that and likely didn’t, but Skenes alone doesn’t guarantee a Omaha birth and getting Skenes undoubtedly would have an offsetting impact elsewhere on the roster. There is no number we could’ve paid Skenes that would’ve been “not worth it”.
