Youth leagues are always looking for quality umpires. They’ll even pay for the gas. Then spend 10-15 years earnestly seeking to make the midweek games. I would guess, this is the best D1 NCAA has.

It is. Just a weird sport where the umps don't match the level of the players. Too many minor leagues sucking off umps hoping to make it to the dream.

Softball ball/strike umps are even worse imo. Not sure why on them
