D. Thomas to Oregon!

FWIW Oregon's release says that Lyerla is being counted currently as a .... WR!

Every indication is that he's going to get a chance to play receiver, which will be interesting because he's got great agility and speed for his size and his athleticism might make for devastating blocking downfield on running plays.

Which probably means TE. He ain't lining up outside the hashes.

Because they have the best rankings, crafted by people who've actually been around the game? Look at the resumes of the rivals bunch, and then look at the resumes of ESPN's bunch. Night and day difference.

With that said, I think they're off a bit on Lyerla.

Wow............

No way will he be a WR. He'll either play TE or OLB.

it's the smart move. let the kid figure it out on his own. not getting on the field will be plenty motivation to switch. never understood some people refusing to recruit kids if they want to play offense (outside of qb that is).

That would be nice in theory, but most of your four and five star players think they're the hottest thing since sliced bread, then their world comes crashing down when they can't get on the field at their position of choice, then they transfer.

I'd be willing to bet that the staff explicitly informs them that they may not get to play where they want to.

I'd be willing to bet that they may not, and I'd be willing to bet more that most big time recruits wouldn't even care if they did.

Are they still wearing those "12-0" around Oregon?

I laughed my a** off when I saw that 12-0 banner at their parade..

I suppose, but that's a bit problematic... Athletic guys like Lyerla and Thomas could play either side of the ball, and there are naturally going to be a lot of those types attracted to the Ducks, but if they can't hack it at the position they want, or even hack it on offense right off the bat (Lyerla said early pt is very important to him) there might be one or two butthurt transfers from very talented ball players.

I hope Kelly was real with these guys and told them that there was a very distinct possibility that they could end up on D.

That happens regardless.

The best way to get a kid to change to a position is to show them they aren't as good as they think they at the spot they want to play in.

Most staffs do not.

They let a player go out and suck it up at the position they want to be at, then say "Look here's how you can see the field a lot quicker"
