D4H's 2017 College Football Season Preview

Mariota made D4H look dumb tonight, guy played with guys and made some huge plays tonight

You're really gassing up one performance? I'm not even a fan of the Titans and I know Titans fans were frustrated with him for his play this ENTIRE SEASON.

Maybe one game is enough for you to forget 16 weeks of pathetic play but one game isn't enough for me. I've watched practically all of Mariota's career from college to the NFL and I've never been impressed with him. I knew he would be a bust coming out of college and he's proven to be a bust over his first 3 years.

One game doesn't change that.

58:34 TD:INT ratio, 2/3 winning seasons, and the only playoff win from any QB in his draft class is nothing close to a bust. It’s funny how much you spin to avoid being wrong

Are you just disagreeing with me to disagree with me? Or as a Titans fan are you genuinely happy with him?

Cause it was just a few days ago on here that I kept hearing Titans fans talk about replacing Mariota with another QB next year.

Most fans are overly reactionary and think Derrick Henry is a superstar. I don’t care what they were saying.

He’s had a bad year, but I like him in general and he’s certainly not a bust at this point.

That's called talent evaluation. And I'll ultimately be proven right.

Just as Alvin Kamara has proven me right when I called him the next Marshall Faulk.

'Talent evaluation', based in what exactly?

Aren't you always on here harping on about how college stats and performances are meaningless in predicting NFL stardom?

What has Dobbs done in the NFL to showcase such talent?

Bad QB don't do what Mariota did on the road in the playoffs. He has struggled but when they went to the no huddle spread last night which is what fans had been wanting he was great.

College stats are meaningless but college performances are critical. Your problem is you are confusing college hype and team success with pro potential. I typically don't care for hype in college and team success. Most people assume a guy like Baker Mayfield will be good in the NFL because of the hype, stats, and team success he enjoyed in college. I don't buy into those things.

However, I do watch how a player plays in college and see if his skills are transferable to the NFL. I watched nearly every snap of Dobbs college career. I also watched nearly every interview he gave which gave me insight into his character. Based on what I saw on the field and off the field, Josh Dobbs is the best pro prospect I've ever seen at the QB position. That is why I've predicted such tremendous success for him in the NFL.

Which is what exactly?

2015 vs Florida; 2015 vs Georgia; 2015 vs Kentucky; 2016 vs Florida; 2016 vs Georgia; 2016 vs Kentucky; 2016 vs Missouri; 2016 vs Nebraska.

In all 8 of those games he was DOMINANT. He showed his skill set. From his strong arm that is capable of making every NFL throw. To his play-making ability not only on designed runs and scrambles but also in terms of avoiding sacks to buy time for his receivers to get open and delivering the ball.

There's honestly too much to say about Dobbs. The total collapse of the Tennessee offense in 2017 after he left should let you know just how good he was at Tennessee. His play in college was almost always exceptional. But if you want to see him at his best, those 8 games are the ones I would direct you to watch.

This one eval proves you don't really know much about the QB position. Dobbs has had 4 years to work on his mechanics (footwork, arm angle, etc) and his decision making ability (pre-snap reads, being able to get way from bad pre-snap reads rather than staying with it) and hasn't really gotten much better in these categories. I'll ask again, what on your talent evaluator resume makes you qualified to make such claims?

Everyone knows about the elusiveness. Everyone knows he has the arm. But what did you see that gave you confidence that he can be a NFL QB? He's a winner. Great. But if you can't consistently make those medium passes down the field you won't be a starter.

Him picking Dobbs as a future super star is just mind boggling. Less than average mechanics and doesn't make the right read nearly enough and when he makes a bad pre-snap read, inexplicably stays with it.

In the same vein of Taylor, Hogan, Hackenburg, et al?

And while I have seen enough to know Alvin can ball you are aware over his last 5 games he's averaging 29ypg/3.3ypc rushing and 73.4 ypg from scrimmage? That's not even enough to beat his own teammate over that span. Not a knock on Alvin at all, the NFL is tough, but he wasn't born on Krypton.

Once again you're showing yourself to be the guy trying to convince us that nice putt on 18 should make us forget you hacking your way to a 140 for the round.

2-2 in your lead pipe locks. With one of those losses being Georgia who you have said over and over would win. Good call.
