D4H's 2017 College Football Season Preview

It's true we lacked talent on the offensive line but our defensive line was talented. And we more than held up fine in 2015 when we were healthy.

We had a large number of injuries in 2016 by the time we faced them.

And yet you still said we'd beat them before the game.

A couple of good players on DL and NO DEPTH is not what you call a talented line (group).

Here's the thing .. we know you want to use Butch as the excuse for all of your wild, outlandish UT predictions not coming true and then predicting all these guys being successful in the NFL to prove the "wasted talent, see? I was right" thing there are plenty of examples of teams with a bad coach overcoming that on talent alone. Larry Coker with the 2001 Hurricanes is one example. The 1999 Nebraska Cornhuskers with Frank Solich is another.

Was there talent on the 2015 and 2016 Vols teams? Of course but it was NEVER going to be enough to do what you thought and you're eye test is more as an over zealous fan rather than using actual objective analysis.

Example: Georgia Tech chews up the UT defense in the first game with 535 yards rushing and you could easily see that the linebackers were getting caught up in their blocks and weren't effective in stopping the run and didn't have enough speed to get to the sideline to stop the option pitch, couldn't react fast enough to the option reads going inside and weren't sure enough at tackles.

But then you predicted that same defense to beat UGA who had been rushing for 200+ in 3 of their last 4 games. Recipe for disaster? Yeah as UGA posted nearly 300 against the UT defense. ON the flip side, the UGA defense held that same GT offense to under 200 yards rushing.

People would actually feel like they are having a real discussion with you if you provided some sort of analysis instead of something that sounds like "well, I liked watching them play and they were exciting at Tennessee so they will be stars in the NFL"

A college team’s greatness is not defined by individuals’ future success

Maybe to you. But to me pro success is how I judge who is real and who ain't in college football because there are such huge gaps in talent in college. Lotta guys can skate by in college looking better than they really are because they don't play anybody.

Yea, most sane people judge it off bodies of work. I get where you struggle: Anything dealing with sports

Then why do you make preseason predictions for a sport you find wholly irrelevant?

You predicted UT to be national champs last year. You predicted Dobbs to be a Heisman winner and be drafted in the 1st round. I could go on and on. The only good news for you is that you can't possibly do worse than you did in 2016.

Had to find this little winner of a post ... yep, he sure can actually

Here are some gems from the self-proclaimed genius:

He posted this about Tennessee in August, saying they would win the NC:

2016 was what I hoped would happen. This year it's impartial predictions.

Then in October claimed this:

Yes.

Georgia was always gonna win the natty this year. I was just trying to force Tennessee into a position that wasn't meant for them.

So he claims in October he always knew Georgia was going to win the NC, yet in August was adament he wasn't just being a homer and was making an impartial pick.

Here are some more:

Rivalry games can be funny. Two years ago Clemson was undefeated and South Carolina was coming off a loss to The Citadel and the game still went down to the wire with South Carolina having a chance to win.

And the game is at South Carolina. It'll be close and go down to the wire.

Still think Clemson is unbeatable?

I told y'all they were gonna drop a game to a team nobody saw coming.

2-3 losses for Clemson this year like I predicted.

Michigan and Oklahoma are still making the playoffs.

Every playoff team always loses one weird game. See last year with Clemson.

Butch Jones had an all-star team in 2015 and 2016 that was more talented than any team Saban had and he went 9-4.

Butch Jones is one of the worst coaches ever.

Read and re-read this like 4 times to make sure I understood what you wrote....and I still don’t believe that you actually wrote it. Did you say “more talented than any team Saban had”??? Lol. Jesus Christ dude. You’re beyond a blithering idiot. No offense.

😂😂😂😂
Please elaborate on these all stars, I will hang up and listen

QB Josh Dobbs
RB Alvin Kamara
RB John Kelly
TE Jalen Hurd
LB Darrin Kirkland Jr.
LB Daniel Bituli
CB Cam Sutton
S Nigel Warrior

All 8 players I listed will be pro bowlers in the NFL.

NFL success of the players from those teams will prove me right.

2016 Vols will have more NFL pro-bowlers than any team Nick Saban ever coached.

Alvin Kamara is just the start. More are coming.

So you expect Hurd to make yet another position change?

I have to see him at WR before I can project him there. However, as a TE he has the ideal body type and the requisite athleticism.

He could be a beast at either position. He's that special of an athlete.

Lol you’ll be lucky if 2 or 3 of those guys end up being the nfl stars you think they will be

Kamara, maybe Sutton, maybe Warrior

I say maybe on Sutton because he hasn't shown any long term success as a regular player and on Warrior because, well, he is a sophomore right?
