Well the Lonzo is going to be an epic failure narrative lasted almost a full 24 hours
Lonzo just had an epic failure debut...(return those BBB's!) and De'Aaron Fox started his HOF trek. #SummerLeagueLogic
Why anyone putting an ounce of stock in performances in Summer League?
In this case, it fits his (d4h) agenda. If he (Ball) wasn't doing well, the narrative would be, "Well, it's only summer league and doesn't matter. He will still be a Hall of Famer. So let it be written, so let it be done..."
Summer league stats are irrelevant but the performances of how the player looks aren't. I like to look for what the player does and how he does it. Does he look like I thought he would? Does he do the things well I thought he did? Does he have new strengths or weaknesses.
Lonzo Ball so far has looked as advertised. He has a sublime feel for the game. He's an incredible passer. A terrific rebounder. Has great instincts as an off-ball defender. And as a shooter has the ability to hit shots with range. He's been exactly what I thought he would be.
Tatum has actually been slightly better than I thought. His post game is more advanced than I thought. He's a better shooter than I thought. And he even showed better athleticism than I thought. He's been a rather pleasant surprise for a player I already had high expectations for.
On the Lonzo HOF report I need to add that between "dominant swagger" performances in a glorified pick-up stage, he already missed a game to injury. Even tho I was alive to watch him, I perused YouTube clips of Grant Hill and am going to compare Ball to him...the version after his injury when he was usually not serviceable. I'm going to declare Tatum, Darrius Miles...he'd tear up a Summer League on you. With the new methodology of self-declared gurus, I don't need a basis of comparison...just blurt out that I'm smarter than all of you and accept my judgement.
