D4H's 2017 NBA Draft Preview

I think he'll be one of the better players in the league over the next 10 years. He'll end up being ROY this year IMO Probably the most NBA ready rookie.

He could be the best rookie but he likely won't be ROY. That honor usually goes to a guy who gets to pad stats on a bad team.

Well the Lonzo is going to be an epic failure narrative lasted almost a full 24 hours

Which Summer League game is official tho? :) Hard to know the rules of this "future HOF player based on
glorified pick-up games" NARRATIVE.

Lonzo Ball is a guy who makes those around him better. I never judged his game by numbers. Just look at how good he made Kyle Kuzma look. Had him looking like a top 10 pick. With actual NBA players around him, his strengths in terms of passing will show themselves even more.

And then you got Jayson Tatum who had another monster scoring game. The guy is just made for the NBA. His one on one scoring skills are already elite. He should be an elite scorer in the NBA for a long time.

Lonzo just had an epic failure debut...(return those BBB's!) and De'Aaron Fox started his HOF trek. #SummerLeagueLogic

That was only one game. Since then he had a 11/11/11 triple double. And tonight he had 36/11/8/5/2. Living up to what I said he would be.

This is a 2-man draft. Lonzo Ball and Jayson Tatum are the only future superstars.

On a scale of 1-10, where would you place their swagger?

On the Lonzo HOF report I need to add that between "dominant swagger" performances in a glorified pick-up stage, he already missed a game to injury. Even tho I was alive to watch him, I perused YouTube clips of Grant Hill and am going to compare Ball to him...the version after his injury when he was usually not serviceable. I'm going to declare Tatum, Darrius Miles...he'd tear up a Summer League on you. With the new methodology of self-declared gurus, I don't need a basis of comparison...just blurt out that I'm smarter than all of you and accept my judgement. :)

Why anyone putting an ounce of stock in performances in Summer League?

In this case, it fits his (d4h) agenda. If he (Ball) wasn't doing well, the narrative would be, "Well, it's only summer league and doesn't matter. He will still be a Hall of Famer. So let it be written, so let it be done..."

Summer league stats are irrelevant but the performances of how the player looks aren't. I like to look for what the player does and how he does it. Does he look like I thought he would? Does he do the things well I thought he did? Does he have new strengths or weaknesses.

Lonzo Ball so far has looked as advertised. He has a sublime feel for the game. He's an incredible passer. A terrific rebounder. Has great instincts as an off-ball defender. And as a shooter has the ability to hit shots with range. He's been exactly what I thought he would be.

Tatum has actually been slightly better than I thought. His post game is more advanced than I thought. He's a better shooter than I thought. And he even showed better athleticism than I thought. He's been a rather pleasant surprise for a player I already had high expectations for.

True. But that's only cause a 35+ game sample from college would be indicative than a 3 game sample.

There aren't many games in summer league so you can't really form new opinions on a player's based on such a limited sample size. All you can do is watch the games and see if what you saw the player do in college has translated to what they are doing now in summer league. With regard to a guy like Lonzo Ball, his game has translated well to the NBA. He very much looks like the dynamic PG he was at UCLA.

Stick to something you're good at: Being a victim.

Where does one obtain a swaggermeter?

I bought one at d4h's yard sale.

It takes 37 AAA batteries and doesn't work for ****. I can't find anyone that makes the needle even wiggle a little. Worst .50 cents I ever spent..
