D4H's 2017 NFL Draft Preview

Fournette has a very good top gear. (and not exactly a plodding low gear either) He ran a 10.68 100m in HS. That's pretty good for a football player period...at his size it's outstanding.

Bettis in his early days was fast before he went to 250-260.

I couldn't think of another overhyped giant college RB with crazy speed who disappointed in the NFL.

How about Hershel Walker? He's another overhyped big SEC RB with speed that disappointed in the NFL.

Herschel was a disappointment in the NFL. He's still the best college player I've ever seen at any position.

Gee, ya think having had over 2100 carries (college and USFL) before ever setting foot on an NFL field might have mattered? And even still he amassed over 8000yds rushing and nearly 5000yds receiving. If you really, REALLY want to look like an idiot start dissing Walker's talent.

Such a disappointing career for Walker. One that will equate to him being in the Hall one day.

Nothing about Hershel Walker's college career was overhyped.

I meant overhyped in terms of pro potential.

Hershel Walker had an underwhelming NFL career. I see the same thing with Fournette. He might have a couple of good years but compared to his peers in this class he will be a bust. There will be several RBs. picked later than him that will be far better in the NFL.

Hershel Walker ain't coming close to the NFL hall of fame.

He only rushed for 1000+ yards twice in his career. And only made 2 pro bowls as well.

That's not very different from Alfred Morris who was a 6th round pick in 2012.

You say some variant of "I mean" a lot. You either suck at explaining your position, or your position is constantly changing.

He's 11th in history of all purpose yards. That's not even counting his USFL stats

And he was 3rd on the list when he retired. If you told me that a prospect would wind up 3rd all-time in APY, I'm burning a first rounder without a second thought.

Herschel Walker was a great pro. The only reason he gets a bad wrap is because of the insane trade between the Vikes and Cowboys.

He got all this info from 1 hour of watching film...... total. That makes it all factual considering his film watching talent.

This guy has watched about 5 minutes of the NFL and suddenly he thinks he's a draft expert.

When he says film, it means highlight reels. It takes multiple games to have enough information on what makes this guy have good games and what makes this guy have bad games. You can't get either by watching highlight films. The next step after that is can this guy improve on those things to contribute, if they can't, why can't they?

When D4H makes his comparisons, they are off because he is missing details to what makes the player the same or different than other guys. He also doesn't get the full side of the story because he doesn't watch enough games. If this wasn't true, he would not be comparing college players to HOFers without backing it up.

He had two 1000 yard rushing seasons. PERIOD.

For a guy hyped as the best RB ever in college, that is downright sad.

This is another one of those situations where you should just say "yeah, what I said was really dumb." Acknowledging that you said something dumb is infinitely better than continuing to say it.

18,000 all purpose yards in the NFL....................
He wasn't hyped as the best RB ever in college, he WAS the best RB ever in college. So total yardage doesn't mean a thing? Also, it's the Pro Football Hall of Fame and not the NFL Hall of Fame, the guy had over 5,000 yards rushing in 3 years in a league that was full of NFL talent. When all you do when "watching tape" is google a name and babble the first stat you see, you show that you don't have the first clue.

You are one of the absolute worst people at contextual awareness I've ever seen.

Walker averaged over 30 carries a game for his college career. He then went on to the USFL where he had 412 carries followed by 293 carries followed by 438 carries.

Let's put a face on this...Walker had 1083 college carries (including bowls) in only 3 years. That's 361 carries a season. Adrian Peterson had 748, or 249 a season. Walker went to the USFL and spent another 3 years at 381 carries per season. All this before his first NFL carry.

So he takes his first game NFL snap with 2226 carries worth of wear off the tires but still manages to avg more ypc than Dorsett on some pretty poor Dallas teams that only win 14 games over the next two season. In '88 Dorsett is gone and Walker becomes the starter and goes for 1514 yards rushing (2nd behind Dickerson) with another 505 receiving. (though still on a lousy Dallas team) A damn fine season. I also think it pretty much finished him. By the time he got through the 89 season, only his 4th in the NFL, his carries had dropped off by 30% and his count was up to 3197 in his football career. Peterson's 3 college and 10 year NFL career are today only at 3166. Sure he kept playing, and producing, but he simply couldn't stand up to being the the focal RB anymore.

Think of Walker sort of like Earl Campbell* except the latter got to roll in straight from college into the NFL. Campbell is easily one of the best RB to ever play in the NFL. He was also pretty much used up by his 4th NFL season. After averaging 351 carries and 1614 yards over those first 4 season he'd only break 1000 one more time.

You have no idea what Walker might have really accomplished in the NFL and obviously a colossal lack of understanding of the talent Walker possessed. That the guy that never even saw the NFL before having more carries than many have in their entire career and then, in many ways, limp his way to being the #11 total yardage leader in NFL history is nothing short of staggering.

*If you don't know who Earl Campbell is do not be a complete idiot and try to act like you do and yes...he was THAT good until the wheels got worn down.

There was a reason why the Vikings sold the farm for Hershel Walker, and it's not because he sucked.

Looks like the Browns are gonna take Mitch Trubisky 1st overall.

Not surprising. The Cleveland Browns will always find a way to screw things up. Even when they are handed a future Hall of Fame Defensive End to them on a golden platter.
