Da Reds thread

Is there anything in baseball more ridiculous than the way extra innings games are handled now?

I think the ghost runner is BS but if the MLB wants one start them on 1st instead of 2nd at least make it difficult to score runes.

Votto may hit 30+ homers at 37 unreal. At what point does he become a legit NL MVP candidate?

JV is mashing. You can tell he is going into each AB to smite the ball. Made a nice D play as well. He's even got his OBP heading toward .400. There's enough hitting on this team around him to win a lot of games if the pen is just average.

Good pitching tonight. Mahle had them guessing with good stuff.

Castillio gives a good outing and the hitters don't hit. Doolittle did little again to finish us off.

It's a hard team to figure. Scored 10 or more runs 17 times, which leads the majors, yet have been shut out 10 times. Scored 1 or 2 runs another 18 times. There were some atom balls hit today but there were a lot of terrible at bats.

It's clear that Stephenson needs 450+ AB's per year. He's our future version of Buster Posey, another Georgia native. If they get the DH in the NL with the new agreement it will clear the path. The guy can hit and is developing into a quality C with good instincts playing 1B.

Givens has been special so far. Good series win.

Winker to the 10 day IL. Barrero brought up from Louisville. They say his hitting has improved. Will see if that is true.

Such a joy to watch India hit. He's doing it like a veteran when he is just a rookie. You can tell when he's seeing the ball well and planning to jack one like he just did. Farmer with a great play from the hole at SS with Votto on the stretch. The afterthought for the SS position has become really sound defensively.

It's time for Hembree to go. 6.8 ERA - enough, Bell.
Even though I’m not giving up on the Cards, maybe we can help y’all out along with us in this 3 game set with the Brewers. I feel like we’re playing some good baseball since August the 1st. Y’all are playing well. That wildcard spot is heating up. Me and you talked about it before that both teams had a chance to get caught up, and now look what has happened.

That would be great to turn it into a 3 team race. The Brewers schedule has benefitted them more than the Cards and Reds. I keep hoping they will go into the slide they have avoided so far. Will be pulling for the Cards. The Padres are drifting a bit. Opens the door for that WC spot regardless of what the Brewers do.

Wouldn’t it be great if all three teams pushed it all the way to the end? I’m hoping also that the Brewers will fall down. Y’all and us are right there also with the wildcard spot. Don’t give up on the central, because it may just get closer than what we are expecting.

Used up all the hitting yesterday.

Good news is Hembree has been DFA'd. No longer a temptation for Bell to use.

With 40 games left it has become a race for the last WC spot. Brewers are staying strong, which I did not believe would happen.

It has been nice to have a solid team again. The obvious sore spot has been the pen - which has been the difference between a guaranteed playoff spot and the borderline shot they have now. I firmly believe the FO has to remove the temptation to use the wannabes and has-beens from Bell because his feel for who and how to use the pen is not good much of the time. They need to be more proactive in demoting or releasing and stop the bargain basement shopping all year. Do a couple of those in the off season and test them in spring training. But this in-game try outs thing for the first half of the season sucks. A loss caused by the pen in April is the same as a loss caused by the pen any other time of the season.

Don't know what to do about Suarez and Gray in the offseason. Disappointments.

Senzel back to the IL. Still has fluid on the knee. They sent him to AZ to rehab. Not looking like it is going to work out for him In Cincy or even MLB if this continues.

Well! I thought we should’ve won that game last night. Keeping a lead till the ninth, but lost it in the 10th. Tonight, we have a bigger lead, and we have to win this one. It’ll help y’all out and us out. I just want one game, that’s all I’m asking here for us.
