Da Reds thread

Votto may hit 30+ homers at 37 unreal. At what point does he become a legit NL MVP candidate?

Bringing this post back for emphasis, bud.

He's only played in 94 games and has 28 HR's and 81 RBI's with a .375 OBP. Projects out to 35+ and 100+ RBI's. His willingness to change his approach and become a power hitter again is what has brought the resurgence. Will probably not play enough games to get MVP, but should be considered. He has benefitted in having some better hitters around him - but this Joey is raking with that new stance and approach while turning 38 next month. This is what the fans pay to see and support. Add in that he has improved greatly on D over the past couple of seasons. I give Bell's staff and his willingness to put in the work all of the credit.

Which means more W's for the team since he isn't the only guy holding down the fort anymore. Tied with the Padres for the WC. Just keep winning. Old mo is a thing.

Let's broom it.

Good move by Bell with Stephenson PH'ing. Broke the game open.

Keep the pressure on the Padres.

Sweep that thing.

Great pitching and Naquin/Moose with the offense. How much did we miss Lorenzen earlier in the season?

How many of us fans predicted Vlad would be a rookie SP this season with 16 starts, 93 IP, a 3.68 ERA (and improving), with a 9-4 record? Yeah, like nobody.

Lots of pleasant surprises this year, hence the playoff push. I didn't see Votto, India or Stephenson doing this well

We went to Daytona for a week about 4 or 5 years ago. We went to a Tortugas game and he pitched. He was highly thought of but he got knocked around a little and we came away unimpressed. Looking at his minor league totals he gave up 400 hits in 404 innings and has a career 4.68 ERA. Outside of his starts in Louisville earlier this year he's pitched better in Cincinnati than he did in the minors. I wasn't a believer early this year but he's pitched at least 6 innings with 2 or fewer runs allowed in 8 of his last 9 starts. I'm pleasantly surprised and hope he can keep it up.

He became a pitcher instead of a thrower. Pleasant surprise.

Big things were expected of India, and he pretty much hit like crap in the minors. Comes to the bigs and is a ROY contender. Never know when the light bulb is going to come on.

Agree, I didn't see it either. JV has been awesome in remaking himself. Rarely see anybody do it at his age.

I had very high hopes for both India and Stephenson. But the org goes so slow moving guys up you really can never know for sure. India must have been bored on the farm because when he got on the roster he just took off. I knew about Stephenson from HS ball reports before he was drafted. He was set to go to UGA if he did not get drafted high. As I've posted before, IMO he's got Buster Posey potential. Strong, smart, good hitter. All the tools you want for a #1 catcher who you can keep in the line-up at 1B occasionally. He would have wasted his time going to college as far as baseball development.

The Padres fired their pitching coach yesterday and promoted the assistant coach as interim. I'm sure that will inspire their already dreadfully performing staff with a 5.91 ERA in the past 11 games staff to improve. lol.

Hammer down, guys. Keep winning.

Feliz DFA'd from the 40 man. Cutting the dead wood.

I would add Wade Miley to the list as well. After last year I was expecting much but he basically carried the starting rotation until Luis came back into form and we got Vlad and Gray back.

Also tip of the cap to Kyle Farmer too, he took hold of the SS position and never once looked back and stepped up his offense to go along with his great defensive play as well.

Who replaces Antone, assuming he's headed back to the IL? The Louisville Bats have a 25-year old RH Dauri Moreta who is on fire.
He has not been scored on in his 14 appearances since his promotion to Louisville. He's made a combined 32 appearances at AAA/AAA with a 0.83 ERA (4 R in 43.1 innings).
LH Phil Diehl has been very good, until this month and allowing 2 runs in each of his last 2 appearances.
There are the usual suspects: Cionel Perez and Ryan Hendrix.

There's also a guy named Hunter Greene and and a guy named Nick Lodolo.

They've got to go down and get a couple of guys to try - there's room on the 40 man.

If history is our guide with this org, they will let all the wannabes and has-beens fail before they try Greene and Lodolo. Sad, but that's the reality. Will see if Krall can made a dent in their thinking or if he's the same as the rest of them have been.

What a year to have a bad pen when the starters are all pitching and playing well. Deep bench as well. It's a shame. Hope they can figure things out.

With our luck the correct way to interpret that is "He's due for a bad game". Lorenzen hadn't given up a run in 12 appearances til yesterday. It's the Reds way

Good W today. Gray was sharp and Garrett wasn't used. Still 1 up in the loss column over the Padres. Hopefully the Dodgers add to their total tonight.

Reds picked up Asdrubal Cabrera off of waivers from the Diamondbacks. Gives us a better option than Suarez/Moose at 3B for the playoff push.

Yeah, I'm liking that move. SH'er who can go at 3B and SS. Nats got good use out of him for similar reasons.

So much fun to watch Miley when he's dealing. Wastes no time.

Looks like he's got a couple years left in the tank - they will probably execute the team option for next year and add a year.
