Da Reds thread

Well - a few of us that predicted in April had them finishing third. So I guess it is our fault they are looking like they will finish third. Behind the Cards - again.

Once again - injuries and pen. They really need to dig deeper on what type players they sign, S&C, medical staff, and development. They are repeating issues over the years.

Senzel pizzes me off. Fish or cut bait with that guy. Wink cannot get through a season with serious injuries as well. Give us more India, JV, Nick-C, Stephenson, Tucker, etc. Move on from Suarez, AA, Moose, etc. If they cannot stay on the field and be at least decent - move on.

Well that sucked the fun out of next season before it even gets started.

Dude's got a lot of work to do in remedial managing classes over the winter. The FO needs to take some of his lousy pets away to help his decision making.

JV hit the 35 HR's I hoped he could get this season. Just needs 4 RBI's to get to the 100 mark I though he could reach. I know he has to be excited that he still has great production at that age.

Time to clear the decks of wannabes though. They have a strong core to move forward with. The only one they may want to give another shot is Geno with his power and contract unless somebody makes a good trade offer for him. He has to play 3B if they keep him though. Hope Nick-C elects to stay. He fits nicely. They need another table setter to go with India. Cannot depend on a full season out of Wink and cannot depend on a season at all out of Senzel. Moose is expendable IMO.

Pitching is another story. Krall has some work to do there.

I hate it when I and a couple other Reds fans on here are right when we projected in the spring about where they would finish. Tough division to play in.

After 6 decades of fandom I just know what I know. A more interesting team than in recent years. But still an org that cannot get pitching, hitting, defense and managerial decisions on the same page with the roster management methods and S&C/training they use. One or more of the key four areas are deficient every single season it seems.

Meanwhile a team like the Acuna-less Braves makes the playoffs with Will Smith closing games. smh...

Well Nicky C ends with 100 RBIs. Votto ends with 36 homers and 99 RBIs, and India should have locked up RoY.

Going to be interesting to see what happens during the off season. Does Nick stay? Do we pick up Barnhart's option and keep the catching duo together? Can Joey Votto keep it going for another year? Can Suarez carry over his end of season surge over next year? Do we keep Sonny Gray and do we pick up Miley's option?

1) I hope
2) Barnhart wasn't very hopeful in his last interview, but wants to stay
3) No doubt
4) IMO - Yes. I think that shoulder surgery was more extensive than they let on. But he was looking much better.
5) Gray - maybe. DJ will know what he has left. Miley - absolutely.

It's time for the org to lock in on the core while the window is open. Add the pieces and go for it. They've got quality guys waiting in the wings to fill the rotation and pen who have upside. Move out the wannabes and has beens. The picture is becoming much more clear IMO.

Sheldon has a good projection of the roster for next season.

How the Reds' roster looks after '21 season

Doubtful on Tucker, Nick C, Lorenzen and some other rentals that looked better in the pen. Stuck with Moose and Geno - hoping for the DH to get the nod in the NL. Stay healthy and be what you need to be with Senzel and even Wink. Looks like Farmer at SS to start with hopes Barrero can get his hitting going. Naquin back and we don't know what to do about Shogo approach. The entire SP rotation may be back to start the season. They will give Garrett another year. Not going to chase the relievers that will be pricey, but are going to try to get a better pen nailed down.

If there is a major trade with that roster - don't know what it is. India and Stephenson are locks for their positions for years. Two absolute studs for the future.

Official...from Cincinnati Reds

CINCINNATI - Cincinnati Reds Vice President, General Manager Nick Krall today announced the acquisition of minor league IF Nick Quintana from the Detroit Tigers for C Tucker Barnhart.
Quintana, 24, was selected out of the University of Arizona by the Tigers in the second round (47th overall) of the June 2019 first-year player draft. In his first 2 professional seasons, he made each of his 140 defensive appearances at 3B while producing 29 doubles, 1 triple, 11 HR and 64 RBI.
“Trading Tucker was a very difficult decision. Having been drafted and developed by the Reds, our entire organization has a connection to him, and our fans love him,” Krall said. "But going into 2022, we must align our payroll to our resources and continue focusing on scouting and developing young talent from within our system. We are grateful for Tucker’s contributions on the field and in the communities throughout Reds Country. He will be missed.”
Barnhart, 31, in each of the last 6 seasons led the Reds in starts and innings caught. Originally was selected by Cincinnati in the 10th round of the June 2009 first-year player draft, over 8 Major League seasons from 2014-2021 he hit .248 while winning Rawlings Gold Glove Awards in 2017 and 2020. Barnhart was a 2-time winner of the Joe Nuxhall Good Guy Award in voting of the local chapter of the Baseball Writers' Association of America and the Reds' Roberto Clemente Award nominee in 2018 and 2020.

In other words we're cutting payroll so Castellini can line his pockets. I'm sick and tired of the Reds cheapness, you should be able to get more than a ****** minor league infielder for a x2 Gold Glover.
