Da Reds thread

Tonight the Braves:

- collected 15+ hits
- scored 10+ runs
- hit 5+ HR
- had a 3-HR inning
- stole multiple bases
- committed 0 errors
- struck out 10+ opposing batters

No other team in MLB history has done all of that in the same game.

They still ended up losing.

🤣 Signing with this org as a SP includes at least one trip to the IL. It must be a requirement. Now it's Lively.

Wonder if there are any local Bearcat SP's available.

Think how well we'd have done with just a modicum of starting pitching. Even replacement level starting pitching and we'd have swept. That said, as things stand right now, we're not better than the Braves. We're probably not even the best in our division but better starting pitching could change that. If Greene, Lodolo, a trade and maybe even Phillips in AA come up, we could change that.

I agree. Krall is trying to not be bent over in a trade by being desperate, but this is ridiculous. They are trotting stiffs out there that are not ML quality and you sure don't want to rush the quality young guys back because they are the future. Rock, meet hard place.

I hope it is a well-learned lesson for the future. They stocked the farm great with position players/hitters and are simply too thin on future ML quality SP's. Maybe drafting a few less shortstops is in order.

SPs are awfully tough to develop. If they developed three (Greene, Lodolo and Abbott) then they're doing great, with maybe Phillips to come. The previous 20 yrs we developed two, Cueto and Bailey...maybe 3 if you count Mike Leake. Yankee fans are clamoring that they haven't developed a good starting pitcher since Pettitt. It ain't easy to develop a healthy starting pitcher

Oh, I understand. But you are talking about the good to great ones. I'm talking the guy who can be sub 5 ERA and give you 6 innings. We only have one call-up in Abbott who is still unproven with only 4 starts. Can't have all your SP's on IL with nothing to call up beyond him.

What you just pointed out is my point. This franchise failed. The three you mentioned from their best period did not stay and there was nothing to replace them but FA signings - who they moved on from as well. At some point they need to lock in. I hope Krall figures it out.

OK, that win streak was fun while it lasted. We knew it wasn't sustainable with our starting pitching and now that more injuries have hit, it looks to me like we're looking at a losing spell of some sort. Maybe losing 20 out of the next 30. We'll see

I like these 3-1 Ws better than the 7-6 variety, although I am happy with all of them. These type Ws indicate a team that's coming together in all aspects and that believe in themselves.

Abbott has been amazing. The pen keeping the door shut was special as well. Find another one to go with Greene and Lodolo and they will be set up for success for a long time.

Greene out until August. The rotation takes another hit. Hope Krall has a plan in place because depending on Weaver and Ashcraft to plug the hole is not working.

I think the report on Greene was good. He's basically starting rehab right now. If it was bad, they'd be shutting him down.

In the meantime, we're in trouble. I suggest bringing up Phillips, particularly given how much success Abbott has had. Options are limited from there. My hope is that they can pick up a high salaried veteran who can give them some innings. The thinking is that if we take on salary, it won't cost us much in the way of prospects. Aside from a trade, let's hope Krall is scouring the waiver wire

I don't know what to do with Ashcraft. He's become a batting tee out there. It just so happens, we need a long reliever. If we can fill in a little in the rotation, maybe he can be moved to the 'pen.

I wonder what the Tigers would want for Michael Lorenzen? Probably too much
