Think how well we'd have done with just a modicum of starting pitching. Even replacement level starting pitching and we'd have swept. That said, as things stand right now, we're not better than the Braves. We're probably not even the best in our division but better starting pitching could change that. If Greene, Lodolo, a trade and maybe even Phillips in AA come up, we could change that.
SPs are awfully tough to develop. If they developed three (Greene, Lodolo and Abbott) then they're doing great, with maybe Phillips to come. The previous 20 yrs we developed two, Cueto and Bailey...maybe 3 if you count Mike Leake. Yankee fans are clamoring that they haven't developed a good starting pitcher since Pettitt. It ain't easy to develop a healthy starting pitcherI agree. Krall is trying to not be bent over in a trade by being desperate, but this is ridiculous. They are trotting stiffs out there that are not ML quality and you sure don't want to rush the quality young guys back because they are the future. Rock, meet hard place.
I hope it is a well-learned lesson for the future. They stocked the farm great with position players/hitters and are simply too thin on future ML quality SP's. Maybe drafting a few less shortstops is in order.

I think the report on Greene was good. He's basically starting rehab right now. If it was bad, they'd be shutting him down.Greene out until August. The rotation takes another hit. Hope Krall has a plan in place because depending on Weaver and Ashcraft to plug the hole is not working.
