Daca

Yeah, let's put people's lives and the economy on hold so that we can make a good thing perfectly legal.

Being a little hysterical don't you think?

This is a good move by Trump, it puts the pressure on congress to actually pass meaningful immigration legislation and hell maybe even a path to citizenship for these people.

Why do you hate dreamers so much?

Better just to deport them and let people whose parents didn't break the law to sneak them in here take their jobs. See how that works. People get on with their lives. The economy is okay. And no laws are broken.

Do you care about what's legal or what's good?

Why do you assume the economy would be OK? Think about what would happen to the real estate market if 11 million people disappeared. Think about all the major industries that rely on immigrant labor. There is no way you can get rid of 3% of the population and not go through hell, especially if they are disproportionately represented in various industries (farming, restaurant, landscape, construction, etc.).

DACA is about the illegals who are a net positive to our government finances. Making an example of them is just spiteful, divisive partisanship for no good reason.

They're undocumented and yet, somehow, they know every single thing about every one of them. Uh huh

Nobody said we know every single thing about every one of them*, but if they have graduated high school, then these people are on the radar. Undocumented doesn't mean literally undocumented, it means not legally residing.

*how dumb do you think people are that you would hold the data to such an invalid and dishonest standard?

We know you're pretty ignorant with these things. If Reason.com was a person you'd be in constant fellate mode. I'm well aware of what an illegal alien is. Are you?

Your answer to the fact that this Congress, under total GOP control in both houses, is the most pathetic of all time is "Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, its not Democrats"?

That's sort of the point.

Actually I'm waiting to see if the R's will do what the D's did not.

D's had every chance in the world that the R's do now and they blew it. I'm hoping the R's don't blow it also.

Realistically, they have several years; most will be renewing before the deadline so it's a bunch of hysteria.

Also, given we are a nation of laws making things perfectly legal is pretty dang important.

There are not 11 million DACA people.

Most (if not all) can renew before the deadline and get another 2 years.

Finally, legal matters a hell of a lot - it's the foundation of our system. Picking and choosing which laws to ignore because you think them good or bad has considerable problems.

He was talking about all 11 million.

We are essentially still picking and choosing because we only put certain laws under the microscope. There is a reason why Trump is picking this issue to sacrifice to the gods of rule of law, and it's not because he cares about rule of law.

So let's assume Congress passes something like the Bridge Act; will Trump get credit for forcing this back to Congress where it should be instead of abusing Executive power?

You're smarter than this LG. You too are trying to rationalize bad administrative policy. This task lies squarely on Congress. The prev Dem controlled congress and now the Republican controlled congress. Rationalizing away their duty because of convenience for an agenda does not vacate the responsibility of the duty.

The only thing Trump did wrong here was not killing DACA his first week/day in office.

We haven't had a POTUS that did care about the rule of law since GHB. Haven't heard you complain yet.

HW? The guy who invaded another country and kidnapped their president in the name of an unconstitutional war on drugs?

You don't know me very well. I used to slam everybody about ROL. It used to be one of my biggest priorities but recently (last 2 years or so) it dawned on me that I need to be more results-oriented. Rule of law is just a means to an ends. It's never going to be what we want it to be and I'm not going to sacrifice good outcomes for the sake of the law.

You should be happy Trump has done this. Neither the Dems nor the Repubs want to throw the dreamers out, by backing congress into a corner they might just get something meaningful done. Like establishing a path to citizenship.

Yet when the D's had even stronger majorities they did nothing - guess they blew more...
