Daca

Do you care about what's legal or what's good?

Why do you assume the economy would be OK? Think about what would happen to the real estate market if 11 million people disappeared. Think about all the major industries that rely on immigrant labor. There is no way you can get rid of 3% of the population and not go through hell, especially if they are disproportionately represented in various industries (farming, restaurant, landscape, construction, etc.).

DACA is about the illegals who are a net positive to our government finances. Making an example of them is just spiteful, divisive partisanship for no good reason.
They rolled the dice by staying here on the basis of a POTUS's executive order and promise to forbear prosecution on his watch. Not my problem. What is my problem is people who have no legal basis for being present in this country being here. They do take jobs that those legally present would take, particularly the DACA people because those jobs are on the books, taxed and insured.

I love your question though. Do I care about the law or what's right? That question perfectly sums up what is wrong with the country. The only thing that keeps society bound together is the rule of law. Without that, it will just be the law of the jungle. If you don't like the law, work to change it. Break the law and suffer the consequences.

It means that the people that voted for this new Congress got sold a bill of goods. Sometimes more than once.

When are you going to realize there is no damn difference in the Dem leadership and the Repub leadership? Neither one wants to upset the apple cart, that's why they have abdicated much of their power to the POTUS.

DACA is not unconstitutional.

Trump trotted out Sessions to lie because Trump is spineless. For someone who campaigned on being an outsider, Trump is the worst kind of politician - he's doing it simply to appease his dwindling base.

Eric Columbus, a lawyer who worked in the Obama justice department and helped craft DACA, even admitted today that it's likely unconstitutional. "Sad to say, I agree with the Trump administration that such a challenge to DACA is very likely to succeed. The legal issues are *identical* to a suit that 26 states filed in 2014 to prevent us from implementing a new program called DAPA. The 2014 suit also challenged an *expansion* of DACA announced at same time as DAPA. But it didn't challenge the original DACA program."

That's a sad view of the world. I think most Americans are good people and that's what binds society. Rule of law is just a reflection of our society.

Here's what Obama said in '12 when announcing DACA, "This is a temporary stopgap measure...Precisely because it is temporary, Congress needs to act."

No. People are greedy and selfish. We accept a form of government as a form of compromise so we can survive together without resorting to our basest instincts and desires. Additionally, the law that is wrong to you may be right to someone else. And vice versa. You don't like one law. I may not like another. Where does that end? Laws are not easy to enact and not easy to repeal or replace. The purpose of the process is to allow for contemplation and prevent rule by emotion.

Trump tweeted that Congress has 6 months to act on DACA or else he will revisit the issue.

Absolutely no one knows what he means.

Oh I don't know. I think a reasonably close paraphrase would be something like:

"Dear US Congress. Will you please get off your dead asses and finally do your damn jobs so that the current sitting POTUS isn't forced to. Again."

You must have gone to Florida Law School. The president cannot make law. He is charged with enforcing law. Two things that Obama failed to do.

Before I went to UF law, I got my undergraduate degree there.

At UF, we learned to write coherent sentences. You might consider asking for a refund from wherever you went to school.

HW? The guy who invaded another country and kidnapped their president in the name of an unconstitutional war on drugs?

You don't know me very well. I used to slam everybody about ROL. It used to be one of my biggest priorities but recently (last 2 years or so) it dawned on me that I need to be more results-oriented. Rule of law is just a means to an ends. It's never going to be what we want it to be and I'm not going to sacrifice good outcomes for the sake of the law.

That's what Hillary said.

That's comical coming from you. I'm not sure that you even have coherent thoughts.

I think the deal is that he's trying to force moderate republicans in western states to put themselves on record on this issue. Illegal immigration is a bigger issue to Republican voters (imagine that) in TX, AZ, NV and CA than it is back East. A moderate Republican who supports "amnesty" out West is toast in the next congressional Republican primary. This is an incredibly shrewd political move by the POTUS.
