:fail:For anyone interested.
Editor-in-Chief (letters@utk.edu): Nash Armstrong
The Beacon appears to be no better than any other fish wrapper. Armstrong had an easy path to writing this article. Unfortunately, all he probably did was troll a few sports boards (Vol Nation, Rocky Top, Scouts, etc.) pull a half dozen knee jerk posts and push them into the structure of an article. Poorly written, poorly researched and very poorly timed. I obviously don't know the writer's intent in publishing this, particularly at this time. There were certainly more opportune times rather than just after a big win in which Scotty contributed heavily. And, just prior to UT's biggest game of the season. I would, also, bet that the editor may well be a member and poster on Vol Nation, or just a lurker. The article means absolutely nothing to me other than the fact it may do more harm than good. A more timely article at this point could have been about how it appears that Scotty may have just turned the corner. "Journalist" give me the facts. I'll form my own opinion. Long post and I don't blame anyone for not reading it. Big Ups to everyone on the team.

He didn't scour the messageboards to write that article. Him and 2 others drove 16 hours to see The Vols play in Providence... not exactly a modset investment monetarily, either.
If anything, he has just as much of a right, if not more of a right to comment when you consider the money and time he invested this past weekend.

That said, if he's going to let one article from a student newspaper affect his psyche so much that he plays bad because of it, then he needs to just step away from basketball and not even consider playing in the NBA.
Yeah, but he's not in the NBA. He is a sophomore in college. And I think most of his problems are mental. So why even write the article? If he thinks it will motivate Hopson, he could be terribly wrong. I think Hopson has really struggled when he tries to force things. Why don't we just write articles criticizing all of our players and hope that it makes them better?? Give me a break
I'll agree he struggles when he forces. He also struggles when the first little thing doesn't go his way. He's not that mentally tough. It's hard to say otherwise.
Whether he publically states it or not, he thinks he's good enough for the NBA now. If he really is, then this article will either motivate him or he'll brush it off as nothing.
FWIW - I really don't see why this was written because personally I didn't think Hopson played bad last weekend at all. He played within the game and took what was given to him. That's coming from probably one of his toughest critics the last 2 seasons. Now, if Chism or prince gets in foul trouble, he's got to step up. but I'd find it hard to critisize his play in the first 2 rounds.
Meh, I could see maybe after the first game, or, more appropriately, during the SEC Tournament, but Scotty played pretty well against Ohio. He had 17 and was fairly solid on defense. There's criticism and then there's being a douche and this runs over into douche territory with its over the top tone. Seriously, an entire article that basically sounds like some rant from a schmuck calling into a radio show serves as journalism?
It's the daily friggin beacon. Half the editorials are people talking about how we should arrest all the leaders of Amnesty International for being commies or something. The only good part of that paper is the crossword, and that's only when it doesn't make me feel dumb.
