Didn’t realize Knecht had such a dramatic late growth spurt, which would explain a lot. I went back and watched his senior HS tape and he’s almost unrecognizable both physically and with his jump shot. Very similar trajectory as Gordon Hayward.

Someone posted his SO pic somewhere earlier in the season...he's had quite a transformation.

I was at that game, but I don't consider myself old. uh oh, I just pulled my drivers license out and looked at my date of birth. I stand corrected. I even remember when that asteroid wiped out the dinosaurs.

We are of similar age. Funny stuff there. Memories make it all good. What a year to be a Vol fan.

Here are a couple videos I found on Youtube, but not much appeared from a quick (first page results) search. I would say a lot of games were not broadcast live, which would lead me to believe the only full recordings for many games would be one of the teams game film from the games.

There was an interview with Ray Mears talking about John Ward. What used to happen back in the Stokely days was that a local TV station (not sure which) would tape the game with John Wards voice as the audio. After the game, late at night, they would rebroadcast these. Ray Mears comments about John Ward calling these games were incredible. I'm going to find it and post it so be patient. Mears (paraphasing) said he got home from a game and turned on the TV and started watching the replay. He said that John Ward was pointing out defensive nuances that even Coach Mears didn't see until he listened to Ward call the game. I honestly thing John Ward was better at Basketball calling than Football, but hey, It's UT. We used to be a football school.

I found it. I set the video to start at the appropriate place. This is a long video, and well worth watching the whole thing. Watch for about 5 minutes from this link and you'll see Mears awe of John Ward.

Over 10 SEC conference games, Knecht is averaging 26.4 ppg, shooting 50% FG, 44.1% for 3-FG, only 73% from FT, is our 2nd leading rebounder at 5.5 per game (Aidoo is at 8.0 per and JJJ is at 5.4 per), is 3rd in assists at 2.1 per game (ZZ at 6.8; Vescovi at 2.8 per game), averaging 1.0 block per game and over 10 SEC games has only turned the ball over 11x despite a high usage rate. Defense has improved from beginning of the year. Probably would be a .500 team without him.

Thanks so much for that, pretty amazing stuff.

As great as he was doing Vol football games, it was basketball where he really shone. I was a student at UT in the early '80's during the DeVoe / Dale Ellis years, and I still vividly remember listening to road games and his calls of "bottom!". The best there ever was or ever will be.

Speaking of the great John Ward, check out this collection of his football calls over the years, starting with the '82 Alabama game, and through the '98 championship season, his last. Indescribably great.

Apparently, they're still trying to lock in a date with his agent. I recommend following Dick's House of Sport on social. Whenever they get it set, they'll post about it right away, I'm sure.
