You are essentially betting on Edey getting an injury or Knecht finishing on a legendary run. Seems like a fun gambleWill go to Edey or some projected 1 year lottery pick player. UT's quantity of weapons should highlight how dominant DK is but I bet he gets jobbed to Edey or a young blueblood team's star when it comes down to it.
No way should Edey should win POTY.
Knecht is way more skilled and a better overall player.
Only thing Edey has over Knecht is size.
Unless Knecht scores 30 a game the rest of the year (he won’t) Edey is winning POTY. It was determined pre-season that Edey was the best by most in the media and that won’t change.
IMO, #53 is the only NUMBER that needs to be retired. But there are 25 or more JERSEYS that could be hanging in the rafters for other players.

There is a legitimate opportunity for him to average 24ppg for an entire season. An SEC player hasn’t done that since the early Joe Harvell in 1991-92. He also has a realistic opportunity to break Houston’s single season point total. King’s ppg average would be very hard to break at this point unless Knecht decides he is just going off the rest of the season and average 35ppg the remaining games. I would say that’s pretty darn impressive and if he ends up breaking some of these long standing scoring records he sure as heck deserves to have whatever accolades they want to throw at him. Who cares if he is only here for 1 season. He is giving his all for Tennessee and not many have done what he is in the process of doing. Not his fault he wasn’t highly touted coming out of high school. Every coach in America is kicking themselves wishing they had recruited him now.Knecht is 5-1 in the SEC. Not worthy of hanging his socks yet.
It also depends on team performance to an extent. Purdue is currently sitting in 2nd place in Big 10 and have not even played Wisconsin yet. If they somehow get swept and Wisconsin shuts him down then that opens the door. If Knecht is going to average 30+ppg the rest of the season and we go on a run as a team then all bets are off. Still a lot of games to be played.Just like the NBA MVP award, the POTY award doesn't always go to the BEST player. Usually, in college, it goes to best stat-laden star on a top team.
Edey is averaging 22+pts, 11+rbds, 2+blocks
Whereas
Knecht is averaging 19+pts, 4+rbds (<2assists, <1 steal & block)
If you argue from a "most valuable to their team" standpoint it's hard to not also choose Edey in that Purdue would be at best a bubble team without him.
I don't see Knecht catching Edey.
Here is as Trivia Q for some older Vol Nation Fans: Does anyone remember being in Stokely in either 76 or 77 when UT hosted UK and the entire 12,000 UT fans all held up their Daily Beacons (like we were reading them) when KY players were announced?? We gave them the silent treatment. Had to be there, but it was clever and awesome!!
You have to remember who you are talking about. Kentucky fans intelligence wise are with Alabama football fans. Most of them are married to a relativeJust saw a post on Facebook from a group of UK fans saying Antonio Reeves is a better player than Knecht and should win SEC Player of the year.
They said the only reason Knecht scores 20+ points a night is because he’s our only go to scorer.
Makes me want to beat them at Rupp even more now.
The students would also yell “Sit Joe sit when he stood up”.Here is as Trivia Q for some older Vol Nation Fans: Does anyone remember being in Stokely in either 76 or 77 when UT hosted UK and the entire 12,000 UT fans all held up their Daily Beacons (like we were reading them) when KY players were announced??
