Iā€™m not a well connected person but the people I do know attribute the positive momentum we have and what they believe is coming to Randy Boyd. We shall see.

That makes sense that he would step up and take an interactive role. He's the one who stepped in when Coach Barnes was above to leave for the UCLA job a few years ago. I think he was able to rally the big boosters to pony up the money for the basketball program and to keep Barnes here.

Quite a bit of anger in defense of an athletic director who isnā€™t even under fire yet. Like I said, no one is going to judge him unless he fail to keep TV. I have faith he understands the gravity of the situation, and weā€™ll find out in July when the season is over.

ā€œTender lilliesā€ aside people felt hurt by his comments. You can call the fanbase soft. You can say itā€™s unwarranted. It doesnā€™t really matter. A good portion of fans didnā€™t like the comments. Itā€™s not really any more complex than that.
Meh, I rolled my eyes at his comments and moved on. But I do know some people who got their sensitive meter cranked up over them.
GBO!!

#VolTwitter is as supportive and as toxic as it comes. I understood his comments. I do agree our fanbase sometimes lights the torches too early. Still, there was a portion that took his comments to mean something else.

The fanbase just wants a winner and the social media negativity will subside. CTV has given this fanbase a point to rally around and the fanbase has responded. Iā€™m already seeing a vast difference in attitudes. Typically, this is the time of year everyone is on Twitter complaining about how bad the upcoming football season will be. This year? Exclusively about the BaseVols.

Winning cures all ailes.

Our fan base really is something else. There are times I think we are the greatest in all of sports...then there are the other times.šŸ˜’

All fan bases are that way. It's just because it is ours that we feel a heightened sense of awareness. Whether good or bad.

Iā€™m not electing myself chancellor of anything, youā€™re just the most bitter poster on Vol Nation. Itā€™s a successful day for the Vols and you come in here complaining about how unfair DW would have been treated if the season went poorly.

Guess what? The season didnā€™t go poorly! No what if scenarios necessary. It was a huge success. So you tell me Iā€™m drafting some contrived narrative BS when youā€™re trying to conjure up some scenario that didnā€™t even happen.

And fair or not fair a large portion of the fanbase had a sour taste in their mouth from when he knocked the fanbase twice about the intense negativity. Fair? Maybe not. But people have the right to feel how they want and a lot of people got upset with the comments.

Tennessee fandom can be and is very toxic much of the time.

Danny White wants championships in all sports. Unless someone ties his hands behind his back...Coach Vitello will be in Orange and White for a LONG time. Itā€™s his job to deliver to CTV whatever he needs to build a dynasty here. First thing will be a huge contract by College Baseball standards...piss off Texas A&M he ainā€™t moving there. Nothing says he will turn his back on him or the baseball program. The man wants to win big in all major sports.

I didnā€™t even know he played a role in that. I donā€™t know Randy but I know people that do and they all say he is extremely intelligent, that he absolutely loves UT sports and is the right guy to lead us back to being strong athletically. Some of these people are big sports people as well in various roles (not associated with UT to be clear) and seem like people in good position to make such a judgment but thatā€™s just my opinion. I look at our baseball team, our softball team, and our 2 basketball teams and, while the menā€™s team wasnā€™t stellar this year, itā€™s hard not to like the overall trajectory. I have a feeling football will start heading that direction too. As I said before, we shall see. I do like what Iā€™m seeing though!

Perhaps the most "connected" poster on this forum has pointed out over the last eighteen months, ad nauseum, that Fulmer had the boosters hook/line/sinker and the athletics department (aside from football, obviously) primed for success.

And... that's true, right? Look at how wonderfully all of the programs have performed this season with the notable exception of our golden goose.

I think everyone being honest on this forum would take an Alabama-level football dynasty at the expense of literally every other program, and perhaps Danny White can deliver to that end (I refuse to pass judgment after four months), but I'm not ready to attribute any of the current baseball/tennis/golf/et cetera success to Danny until he has to start making some calls that put his $1mm+ salary to the test. Unless I'm mistaken, the first big one is going to be ensuring that UT gets some baseball upgrades and offers Tony a top-five salary; if Tony doesn't accept after all the cards are on the table and jumps to LSU, whatever, but you have to both make the initial enticing offer and have a non-JUCO backup plan if things don't go your way. If this doesn't happen, he's immediately in my bad books.
Posts should be short, simple, concise and coherent. Now, let's try agaiin.

LOL that pretty much every tweet he makes is met with "pay Vitello" responses. This one is no different.

Bunch of morons. We are lucky to have anyone want to be anything at our school.

The stability in spring sports was being built long before White arrived.

This. By and large, White walked into a great situation in terms of sports other than football. I am not down playing the horrible situation he walked into with football, 3 win team, gotta hire a coach, NCAA issues, transfer portal, loss of revenue due to COVID... terrible.

This is precisely why I believe...

He ainā€™t leaving!!!

We have an intelligent and extremely passionate fanbase but it's been sorely tested with the massive failures experienced in the football program. People often go overboard venting their frustrations in anonymous forums. Yet we pack Neyland and TBA and support one of the most well-funded athletic departments in the country. Despite the revolving doors in the presidents and chancellors office, the AD's office, and the fb complex. And some of the most bone-headed moves one could imagine.

In other words, the fanbase has ALWAYS been accountable - maybe the athletic department with new leadership will hold up it's end.

We disagree on a lot here and many others do. To say we are always accountable is like saying we are always right. That is one idea that is always wrong. As for an intelligent fan base, it would be asinine to say everyone is stupid, but those who are not seem to have their volume at another level. It is my belief that those who are need not defend those who are uncivil and classless and perhaps unintelligent and help the University repair its brand.

I really think you and Plowman are on the exact same page, and that's why she stepped in so forcefully. The removal of Fulmer and hiring of a professional sports administrator could have brought a lot of anger from the fan base, but she seems determined to fix this despite that. Let's hope she made the right decision in White.

Many of you are mostly right, but may not be following women's sports. A lot of unhappiness with the golf coach has been brewing and she is no longer here. White's role? I have no idea. Also, there is a strong minority concerned with softball. Coaching and competing in the facilities war are hot topics. Maybe some issue with T&F?

Just saying, ADW's only concerns are not just retaining CTV (please Lord) and improving football.

I honestly don't follow softball much. I do enjoy watching and I've been to a few games. What's the minority issue?
