Dantonio to S. Carolina? His Alma Mater....

MSU is paying him roughly 3.7 mil I think. If South Carolina offers him around 5 million wonder if he would go.

He played at USCjr and is a native of the South.

Would he return? Especially with Urban and Harbaugh being in the big 10?

**Shout out to my buddy who informed me that Dantonio is a former Game Cock.

Nope.

And nope.

If I understand your logic, he'd want to leave the Big 10, where Meyer and Harbaugh reside, to go coach in a conference where the following coaches reside: Saban, Miles, Freeze, Richt, Mullen, Malzahn, Sumlin, McElwain, Pinkel, et al.?

If Dantonio goes to Gamecocks, would Mich State show any interest in Michigan native Butch Jones?
Would Butch think about it if he feels let down by Vol fans/media over the Crowder thing and criticism this season for coaching mistakes?

If Butch would change jobs over a feeling he got from being criticized by fans, the we need to get him out now. This is a big boy job were paying $3m for.

SC's last 2 hires - National Championship coach Lou Holtz and National Championship coach Steve Spurrier.

TN's last 2 hires - Butch Jones and Derek frikkin Dooley.

Perspective

It wouldn't surprise me at all to see them pull in a big name coach...again.

Always thought SC was attractive to coaches like Holtz and SS because of what it offers them.

#1 A chance to win with the right steps taken
#2 A 'manageable' fan base whose expectations are not so high that you are fired the first time you go 7-5.
I believe those 2 chose that destination over many "better" ones because of those lower pressure. Both got plenty of mileage out of SC.

SC is in a bad spot..... Outside of having a name coach.. They having nothing to really sell.. Clemson is a better program, GA, TN both recruit in their state

Truth. They've finally spent all their lottery money is a way to put it.

Ironically, I think Spurrier changed this one, or he'd still be the coach there...

There are more D-1 football players in the Atlanta Metro area than in all of South Carolina. Much like the State of Tennessee, it's very hard to field a team from just in-state players.

dantonio's pretty old and has some health issues. USC will go after a younger coach with a track record---maybe the guy at Houston or Memphis.

Matt Campbell of Toledo or Rod Carey of Northern Illinois would be two guys worth interviewing for South Carolina

From what I hear Gruden is a lock for that job.

Clemson and Dabo Swinney control the recruiting in South Carolina.

While it might seem like that because Clemson consistantly has higher ranked classes that SC, that's really not true. Case in point, you simply have to look at the last 6 or 7 "Mr football's" (the best football player) in South Carolina. South Carolina landed 4 of them, Clemson 1, with UGA getting 2 and 1 going to Wake.

Where Clemson out recruits USC is in Florida and North Carolina, where obviously they have a bigger presence due to ACC footprint vs SEC footprint.

So in the state of South Carolina I think USC wins. What better clemson recruits from the state of SC can you name that are better that Stephon Gilmore, Lattimore or Clowney?
