Dantonio to S. Carolina? His Alma Mater....

They are not scared to hire a name coach, even if they are past their prime. They will spend $ and hire a proven coach. Look at their track record of football and basketball coaches. Even Brad Scott was a very highly thought of OC at F$U. Eddie Fogler and Odum were proven BB coaches. They hire Martin, another proven BB coach.

Their problem is they don't have a deep recruiting base in any area. They struggle to even win their state and cant go into NC or Ga with any regular success.

In recruiting USCe has a lot of the same problems that West Virginia has.

SC is in a bad spot..... Outside of having a name coach.. They having nothing to really sell.. Clemson is a better program, GA, TN both recruit in their state

Good post. Spurrier knows he has seen his high water mark at USCe. He knows recruits are no longer listening. While he had a nice 4 year run, USCe's one and only division championship was with a 9 win team that got pasted in the CG.

He's probably the best game day coach college football has seen in the last 30 years.... and he couldn't win a championship at USCe.

Unless they offer big money, and that's unlikely, they're probably going to drop to competing with MU and UK for 4-6 in the East.

I include Mizzou for four reasons. One, no one really knows how long Pinkel wants to coach. Two, they haven't proven they can consistently get top recruits even with Pinkel. Three, their West schedule "luck" will run out. (They travel to LSU next year.)

Fourth... and biggest of all... UF and UT are getting healthy as programs again. Without a significant uptick in recruiting, MU just won't have the horses to consistently beat all three. The "normal" state of the East since going to divisions looks a lot more like what the West has looked like the past few years. Three fairly consistent programs at the top and then some comers and goers... but mostly those teams. It is more likely that TAM makes it a consistent 4 in the West than MU does in the East.

If Dantonio goes to Gamecocks, would Mich State show any interest in Michigan native Butch Jones?
Would Butch think about it if he feels let down by Vol fans/media over the Crowder thing and criticism this season for coaching mistakes?

I cant

Surprisingly we have a total of one player from South Carolina on our entire roster (Joesph Young) and he was very lightly recruited at best by anyone outside of FCS schools.

Why does everyone think USC JR. recruiting is so bad? They have consistently had top 20 classes. Their talent may not be great but it's not as bad as some are making out.

There is no comparison between South Carolina and West Virginia in producing players. What are the same problems?

Having trouble consistantly recruiting outside the state is one.

I always thought that South Carolina is where you go when they kick you out of NORTH Carolina. I mean why would a sane person WANT to move there?

WAS the best game day coach. The past couple years not so much. TN game in 13 and 14 are examples. Remember the timeout fiasco in 13?

A few things:

1. Bill Snyder is a better game day coach than OBC.

2. USCe has plenty to offer. Hungry fan base, decent enough facilities, top conference, lots of recent success.

3. Someone said that Atlanta has more D1 players than all of SC combined. I want to see stats that support that.

4. A good name hire can easily change USCe's out of state recruiting woes. The OBC got top twenty classes without trying. He would rather golf than travel and it hurt him.

Ever heard of Statistics?

There are 5.5 million people in Metro Atlanta (over half of Georgia's 10 million people), vs only 4.8 million people in the entire state of SC.

Where do college football players come from? - Football Study Hall

One could make the argument that, for the SEC, it's more important to recruit Georgia and Florida well than one's home state (assuming you're not Georgia or Florida)...

I know that Georgia produces a lot of talent, you didn't give stats for what I asked for though. Thanks in advance, I'm sure you have those. New York has way more people than Atlanta, but the state produces very little talent

SC's last 2 hires - National Championship coach Lou Holtz and National Championship coach Steve Spurrier.

TN's last 2 hires - Butch Jones and Derek frikkin Dooley.

Perspective

It wouldn't surprise me at all to see them pull in a big name coach...again.

Yet the most success to date out of all 4 coaches has been a SEC East Title. Jury is still out on Butch. Just saying, credentials aside, USCjr is a tough place to win.
