Da'Rick Rogers invited to UT's pro day??

This thread is bad and OP should feel really bad.

Guys from other schools (especially smaller ones) participate in pro days at schools they don't attend. It's part of the whole deal.

Da'rick didn't personally come smoke up in your face or do you any harm. Nut up and stop being a moron.

People have to have something to gripe about. Its not like he as been here training or working out with the team for the last 3 months. Good Lord...

Agreed. Why even waste time and energy posting about it and defending it? It's a nonissue.

Firstly, Pro Days are not exclusive to Vols. Secondly, I was very grateful for DaRick choosing Tennessee and I was excited to watch him play. He was a glimmer of hope in an otherwise embarrassing season. It sucks that he could not get his life together and whatnot...but I bet you all claim him as a Vol if he becomes an NFL MVP. Good Luck to him.

how did he hurt the program? He basically carried the team as the only receiver for a season but that's forgotten after a piss test over half of campus would fail

he messed up and then owned up to it. The UTAD felt comfortable enough allowing him to use their facilities. Good enough for me

I agree with this. If not for Da'Rick, Vandy would have a 2 game winning streak over the Vols right now.

Yeah after all this is the land of 2nd chances.....and 3rd,4th,5th..... Get real! You sarcastically mentioned being "known for for punishing players"...there is something to be said for a program who emphasizes "accountability". I'd much rather be known for that instead of a program that's better known for it's team arrests records, etc!

if you don't think college athletes get many, many chances then you're living in a dream world. He just happened to fail something the NCAA cares about and UT couldn't hide.

accountability? It went out the window when AD's starting dealing with millions of dollars

Entitlement. You guys are all over the place and it's epidemic. And you don't want anyone else to have the opposite opinion. Opinion nazi to boot.

Guess what. Bad decisions can result in bad consequences. I'm not shocked that people don't care. That's how it is nowadays. Doesn't matter if you screw up to some people. And then they are shocked in the real world later in life when screwups have repurcussions. He got kicked off the team and out of school. That's hard to accomplish.

I don't even hate DR. He was nice to my kids everytime I saw him downtown before games at the hotel. Very nice.

he was an infection in the locker room. He tweeted junk all the time and ran his mouth nonstop. He showed no respect for his teammates, coaches, university or program, but now he wants to come back so he can try and make some $.
By their policy, I don't know that they would turn anyone away. I just think its amusing that someone that wanted so much to be gone, all of a sudden wants back.

Oh really? You were in there? You know many of his teammates? Clueless.

He was invited back by the coaching staff. He didn't ask, he didn't beg. He was invited.

DR hurt his team and program by being selfish and a dumbass, but wants back in now so he can showcase his talents. He could've found another pro day somewhere.
I have no problem with kids around the area coming in that respect the opportunity to get on Neyland field to try and make it. I have a problem with people or players who **** on something, but want to come back and take advantage of another opportunity after ******** on the first one/s.

Yeah I'm with Spart on this one. Well said.

his teammates grew tired of the constant drama and special treatment. They liked DR as a person. Everyone that met him has. But continuity in the locker room has sucked for years and he was a big part of it. He disrespected his position coaches like noone has. That you think that isn't a locker room infection and call me clueless is pretty funny.

The small school kids in the Tennnessee area always show up to the UT pro day, it is not worth it for schools like Tennessee Tech to throw a pro day for one athlete. This happens with every big state school. Stop trying to create uproar for literally no reason...

Again, were you there? You're basing your opinion on hearsay and half-truths perpetuated by posters with an agenda.

The bottom line is, the staff that coached him is gone and the new staff elected to invite Da'rick back to give a young man the best possible chance to impress scouts and get a job that could change the course of his life.

If he gets his stuff together and has a great career, it can only be good publicity for the Vols. You know the talking heads will be referencing his college career on Sundays and MNF. I don't believe teaching him a lesson by denying the Pro day tryout will benefit anyone.

No, I wasn't there. Were you there? And I didn't get any of that from a message board. I get zero info from here. I got it from former players I play basketball with twice a week.
And I know your last point. Doesn't mean I can't have an opinion on it. Butch wasn't here when all that went down. Can't say I blame him. I just think it's weak. That's all.

per Bruce Feldman:

DaRick Rogers on why he ended up at TN Tech: "Simple. It was immaturity. Goin to Tech humbled me a lot. I had to learn to control that edge"

also

Tennessee Tech WR Da'Rick Rogers said he failed 3 pot tests that resulted in dismissal at UT. Passed all 10 at TT.

Da'Rick was a great receiver for us and is a prime example of what you get with completely abysmal leadership by dooley. We really needed him last year but im glad he was let go because we in turn let dooley go. Wish him well in the NFL and hope he doesnt turn his back on UT, we could use the exposure for giving him his opportunity. Some of you posters just baffle me. Bash the only talented players we have had, Da'Rick, Bray, etc. and wonder why nobody wants to rep UT.

I am still amazed that people blame DaRicks problems on Dooley. At some point, young men have to accept some responsibility. Coaching cant be a babysitting service

we'll see. I hope he has. I just don't buy it yet. Let's see what happens when he gets back with the old crowd and gets some pro money.

Yawn...

1) it is fairly customary to allow guys who flunk out or whatever to participate in pro day

2) Its a nice thing to do it doesn't cost TN anything

3) DaRick has already been punished for his mistakes

4) TN has nothing to gain by not allowing this but it looks like a nice gesture when they do

5) Everyone knows DaRick is a jerk TN doesn't have to make a point here. Is it so bad to help someone when you can?

6) Its a can of worms when you start picking and choosing who gets to participate. You could make a rule that says no player that is not still enrolled gets to participate but not sure that benefits anyone

I got kicked out of UT my sophomore year. I basically failed out because I was having entirely too much fun...Let's just say Da'Rick and I might have had a few things in common. I eventually got back into school at Tennessee (which is ridiculously hard to do once you fail out) got on the Deans list quite a bit and graduated. I am a mother of two, have been successful in my career, and have not even had a speeding ticket in 15+ years. I guess it is the era of entitlement that made me believe that I deserved a second chance. Wow, I am really glad you guys still let me post here on Volnation.....People change. Get over yourselves.

You can act like a DA on here everyday, but I can't have an opinion on DR coming back to campus.

Entitled ignorance is even worse.
