It's a win win for both parties involved. He is still a former Vol and will start on Sundays.

I got kicked out of UT my sophomore year. I basically failed out because I was having entirely too much fun...Let's just say Da'Rick and I might have had a few things in common. I eventually got back into school at Tennessee (which is ridiculously hard to do once you fail out) got on the Deans list quite a bit and graduated. I am a mother of two, have been successful in my career, and have not even had a speeding ticket in 15+ years. I guess it is the era of entitlement that made me believe that I deserved a second chance. Wow, I am really glad you guys still let me post here on Volnation.....People change. Get over yourselves.

if you don't think college athletes get many, many chances then you're living in a dream world. He just happened to fail something the NCAA cares about and UT couldn't hide.

accountability? It went out the window when AD's starting dealing with millions of dollars

Dude listen....I'm a coach myself. I'm very well aware of how many "chances" a D1 atheletes get! That's exactly why it pisses me off so bad when players don't want to be "helped" until there's $ at stake in terms of an NFL career.

I know there will be some here who think this is such a classy move on Coach Jones's behalf....but not me. I just disagree with rolling the carpet out for a young man who had countless chances here at UT to "grow up" and show "maturity" here at UT. He was given a long leash and did nothing but abuse it. Instead he was selfish and felt know allegiance to his team and ultimately got shown the door. I'm sorry but I think we should have left those ties severed. He cares nothing about being a VFL so please don't play that card. Go Vols!

In some ways I have mixed feelings about this. Im glad UT showed class dealing with DaRick, but I think he should have been told to stand in Tucker Stadium & wait for the NFL scouts to come to Cookeville! He had chance after chance at UT & repeatedly proved he didn't care about the school, the team, his teammates or UT fans. He should have been given the selfish treatment he dished out!

Entitlement. You guys are all over the place and it's epidemic. And you don't want anyone else to have the opposite opinion. Opinion nazi to boot.

Guess what. Bad decisions can result in bad consequences. I'm not shocked that people don't care. That's how it is nowadays. Doesn't matter if you screw up to some people. And then they are shocked in the real world later in life when screwups have repurcussions. He got kicked off the team and out of school. That's hard to accomplish.

I don't even hate DR. He was nice to my kids everytime I saw him downtown before games at the hotel. Very nice.

This tells me you're as stupid as OP.

It's not entitlement. The Tennessee staff invited a player from a smaller school who will most likely go pro to their pro day. Pro DAY, emphasis added. It's not like he was put back on the team. Pro days all over the country do the exact same thing. Would you clowns be whining about it if he hadn't been at UT?

Newsflash: most people don't give two dumps about using pot. If they did, we wouldn't have any athletes left to play sports.

It isn't just a classy move on his part, but a smart one as well. It doesn't hurt the university to say that the future top 3 wide receivers from this class had an affiliation with TN. It is all about recruiting, and he wants future wide receivers to see the athletes that chose to play here.

You guys just sound like whiny ex-gfs that don't want to see their ex happy. Get over him and understand he didn't WANT to get kicked off the team. It just happened.

Couldn't disagree more with the OP.

Darick turns into a star, you'll appreciate this. He could be one of the guys who comes back here and help the program since CBJ did this. You never know.

how did he hurt the program? He basically carried the team as the only receiver for a season but that's forgotten after a piss test over half of campus would fail

he messed up and then owned up to it. The UTAD felt comfortable enough allowing him to use their facilities. Good enough for me

Not only half the campus but half the posters on VN as well.

No way dude it's all about entitlement and how he deserves another chance.

Leave it to a bunch of old lunatic fogies to bring up a complaint just to have something to fuss about. Typical the-good-ol-days-were-better BS that's been repeated since the start of humanity.

If people don't understand a point, it usually leads to namecalling.
And I don't care if people smoke pot. That's not even in the debate.
I think he and Montori should have had a pro day somewhere else. That's all. And the opinion of a 15 yr old isn't going to change mine.

you'll learn one day. Maybe. You are the entitlement generation and you should be a spokesman for them.
You sound like just the punk that could lead the entire group.

You've invented an issue around supposed entitlement that nobody that's OK with this pro day happening has even remotely approached.

It's shameful, short-sighted, and only reveals a bitter, unhappy human being. The one who's missed any point is the one who is complaining about something that he fabricated in his (likely fairly uneducated) brain.

we are seriously comparing a girl who got drunk too much at age 19 and had to go home to a scholarship football player with a free ride and 1st round nfl potential?

Perspective is nowhere.

More so, that she screwed up and redeemed herself, but you obviously have never made a mistake in your entire life. Get off your high horse there Francis.

Once you explain how any of this has to do with entitlement, or any poster's support therof, get back to me.

Until then, it's fairly easy to discount your rambling as an insane, sad man who hates his life.

It isn't just the opinion of a "15 year old." Your opinion differs from everyone in the UTAD including the head football coach. Quit acting like you are superior when you are obviously the minority, and can't see past the next five minutes to understand the positive effect this could have.

you compared it to some HS kid earlier so it fits if that's the bar

for major FBS talent that money is on the line the minute they step on campus. Acting like this pro day means more than that is ridiculous. He will be/has been asked about his issues at UT and will have to deal with that in the NFL. No reason to punish the young man further by preventing him from being seen by as many scouts as possible. Something that wouldn't happen in Cookeville

The worst part of American society is the vast swath of old uneducated folks who think because they're old they're right.

You are right, I never got kicked out of college. I don't care about random chick. The discussion is about a player that didn't care enough to be a part of the program, but wants to be back to help him when he needs help.

How the hell does having an opinion on a kicked off player turn into me thinking I'm superior? That drama bs is what the ff is famous for. You guys don't like my opinion. I don't care.
And I already stated that I understood why Butch allowed him back, but accuracy isn't important.
