Da'Rick Rogers invited to UT's pro day??

I haven't read a single response in this thread, so if somebody else also said something along these lines, good for them.

Vol for Life. Life. Not "Vol until you mess up." Not "Vol until you have no use for us."

Butch Jones preaches the values of making this program a family. In a family, you don't cast aside someone who messes up 1, 2, 3, or even 4 times. You continue to love them, help them, and show them you care. Are there limits to those things over time? Absolutely. But not for a 22 year old who is acting like a 22 year old.

What message would it send if Da'Rick or Montori were told, "Hey, we know we said you were Vols for life, but not on this pro day." I thought it was a kind move and one that we should expect out of our HFC. Our program is one of the greatest in the history of college football. We have molded great young men. The last four years, I've seen us move away from that to a "win at all costs, if you aren't with us you're against us" mentality. Let's get back to caring for our own.

Vol for life.

And I have repeatedly said I have no problem with what Butch did or that opinion. I just disagree. Seems to me the ones that don't like another opinion are the ones on the high horse.

But again, accuracy doesn't matter. Drama and insults rule.

When your opinion is dumb as F, its hard to resist.

Butch didn't bend over backwards countless times trying to keep him out of trouble either. I can assure you the previous staff exercised every option to keep him in line....but at the end of the day......it's on the player.

Heck guys....I've been thinking, maybe I should take the stance that many of you are taking and just be tickled pink that he was back on campus. I mean heck.....we should invite Janzen Jackson and several other players that had NFL potential back to display their talents. (If the coaches had only given them one more chance). Shoot...I miss NuKeese Richardson and others that got shown the door. I think it'll send a good message to parents, players, and the media that UT has unconditional love for our players!!! GO VOLS!!!

If his new school had a pro day it seems like he would have went to it. But if they didn't, nothing wrong with him coming to ours.

Aw, Sparty. You ought to know by now we on VN are all guilty of bias, narrow-mindedness, being judgmental, snide, smartalecks, and downright ethno-centric. So just let me say for myself:

Son, there's a difference between people who refuse to learn from their mistakes and those who. I haven't seen any contriteness from Nukeese and Janzen so don't even think about them unless mentioned like in your post. Even then it's only a fleeting thought. In contrast, DR is owning up to his misdeeds and appears to be trying to take steps to remedy his faults having been humbled. It remains to be seen if he does but until then, the jury while out shouldn't damn him for the effort. If while here he reverts even in the slightest, I'd be the first to board your boat and want him run out of town for good. Until then a wait and see, and hope he has turned himself around is the classy thing to do. For me, his own words are his judgment and will convict him so to speak as to whether he's lying or not. Now, I understand you must hold a grudge cause it's your nature. And since I and nobody can do anything about it, carry on.

Personally, I don't have a problem with CBJ allowing this but I can see why it bothers some..

Agreed. I think it was very good (and selfishly smart) for CBJ to invite those guys back. We are going to recruit kids that are questionable from a character standpoint occasionally. What better way to sell your program in a living room than to use them as an example. "We still care about our guys, not cast them out with the garbage."

These two weren't problems of his...what will be interesting is to see how he handles a disclipline problem of his players (and there will eventually be one).

It's all water under the bridge and honestly....time to move on.

I'm 100% ok with this. The kid did more for UT football than 99% of the members on this board. 1000 yards with Matty Ice? Fine by me.

CBJ has class, and wants to showcase to the world the kind of talent that UT brings in as well as the character we possess in wanting the best for kids growing into men.

Funny how some of the same people who believe that DR shouldn't have been allowed to come to pro day are some of the same who thought Dooley shouldn't have been held accountable.
So their logic is that young men should be held at a higher level than head coaches.

Haha truly amazing!

You obviously don't remember his mug shot after he was arrested as a freshman. This was for his envolement in a bar fight before he even played a down. That was the first of many mishaps that he had. How close do you even follow this program? Grow up?? I promise you I'm a full grown man!

When did I have any arrogance, drama, or insults?

I wonder how many players from the 90s did the exact same thing and you worship them....you might be full grown but "grown" men don't bash a 18-22 year old and say they don't deserve to be around the program that they've had more to do with than one fan talking on a message board

I don't think weed has anything to do with it. Its about "**** this place", which is what he said often as he walked out. Even tweeted it.
Like I said several times, I understand the other side. I just differ on this one.

I get what you're saying but have u not ever said something in the heat of the moment, that may even have taken days to calm down from, then been like, "you know what, that was my fault"? He seems to have had a reality check and could become an ambassador for the program. And before someone says they wouldn't want him to be, everyone doesn't have to be mr perfect like Peyton. Like he said in his pro day interview, something along the lines of "I played with a lot of guys at TTU that would've killed to play at UT and I messed that up"

Believe it or not, I haven't missed a single "snap" of a game since 1987! I have witnessed countless stars or potential stars be shown the door and you know what...when it finally got too that point....they were gone for good because the coaches give these "stars" COUNTLESS opportunities to do right. Coaches need and want these players in the program, so they're not going to be released until they have no other options! This is the root of my frustration. I hate so bad that he couldn't conform to the expectations of collegiate atheletics. That being said..I also don't think he could have coexisted with the the arrival of Patterson. I think 3 would have been a crowd. But hey man....I'm not knocking you for supporting him. Go and be his biggest fan....seriously! I just choose to support the countless other players that seem to buy what our coaches are selling. GO VOLS!

So you despise the whole 2012 team. They didn't seem to buy what dools was selling..especially when they phoned the vandy game in.
