Dave Hart Quotes from Article on TOS

At worst, you make the right hire and you've made back your loss in 2 years max. You make a great hire and you make back your losses in less than a year, this isn't that complicated.

Make the wrong hire and you lose multiple millions.

You keep assuming we can just walk out and hire Pearl or his equivalent.

What if Pearl doesn't want to come back to work for Cheek who fired him? What if there's too many bridges burned? What if someone scoops up Howland first or he chooses another school? Then what? You tell me how we come out ahead when we hire the next Buzz Peterson.

What 4-5 million? To clean house and restock?

I think they lose that next year if things are as bad as you say attendance wise. Add in concessions, merchandise, donations etc IMO it easily exceeds $5 million.

And like I said, what does waiting 1 more year save you?

You are the one that keeps floating out these bogus attendance projections, not me. Look at the trend of tickets sold by the poster earlier. Ticket sales just don't drop that fast. We will lose a thousand or 2 at most. The average ticket cost is probably around $15 for the tickets that would be lost. 18 games. Half a million dollars lost in tickets. If you think I'm conservative. Double it. And you're assuming that you'd get all those people back by firing CCM. If you fire CCM and hire La Tech dude, I'm not renewing mine. Lots of people won't.

You're basing all of this off of your bogus 8k average. Sparty's friends may drop their box, someone else may pick it up. There's not an empty box I don't believe. Similar to lower level tickets.

It's all a risk in Dave Hart's eyes.

BTO, fill in the blank for me here.....

If Dave Hart elects to give Martin a one year extension in April 2014 the reason is ______________________.

I don't think he'll give him a one year raise, I think he'll get fired or get a 3+ year extension.

You're making my point, thank you. This all lies on hart making a good hire, which I have zero confidence in him doing.

If he's gonna make a good hire, it's an easy decision, if the football search is an indication then yes, money's a serious issue.

Ok so you admit $1 million lost in tickets is reasonable expectation?

Add in merchandise, tv, concessions etc. loss at a minimum is $2+ million.

So what you lose is what costs to clear out the current staff.

Pearl and staff cost what, $3 million tops? Same for Howland? People are saying high money donors want Pearl, they wouldn't be willing to cough up $3 million, I find that hard to believe.

Let's compromise and say 2. I see no way he gives Martin another 5 year deal.

So fill in the blank assuming Martin gets a 2 year extension

.

He made the tournament.

If they fire CCM and rehire CBP what is your prediction concerning attendance?

I think if previous attendance is any indication, it will be in the 20K+ range. Average attendance numbers:

2005: 12,225
2006: 17,954
2007: 19,661
2008: 20,267
2009: 20,483

2010: 19,168
2011: 18,952
2012: 16,543
2013: 16,635
2014: TBD

And that's been my stance for a long time.

He makes the dance a bonus, raise and extension are coming in my opinion.

He misses the dance and a move should be made.

Agree. That should be the basic goal for teams not named Duke, Mich. St or Kansas. IMO

Forgetting about the product we have seen so far this year on the court, where I think we screwed ourselves the most as fans was our pre-season projections of where this team will end up. I was as big an optimist as anyone so my finger is pointed at me. Guess which finger.

I am not saying this team doesn't have talent or that the potential wasn't there. But I don't think their was enough evidence on the sideline the last 2 years to make us really believe this team was ever elite 8 bound or final 4 bound. JMO

My opinion only, but from the talent I've seen on the court this season this should be a team challenging for a sweet 16 appearance with a chance to do better.

Stokes' development has been amazing to me and a quality coach would have used his athletes to push the pace then every time it went into a half court set the ball would have gone through Stokes' hands or there would have been hell to pay to anyone who jacked up a shot without Stokes touching it first. Again IMO we'd be 4 to 6 wins higher right now looking for a quality seed.

CCM doesn't have the tallent for this missed opportunity again on the horizon....time to cut him loose.

Which is why I think Howland, Gaudio and possibly even Pearl would be the 1st 3 candidates that Hart considers. They don't come with the added expense of a buyout. Makes all of them cheaper to hire in the short term. But if your Hart you don't know for a fact you'll hire them.

The idea that boosters just crap out millions of dollars to fire a coach is laughable. It's just not how it works. Guys donate millions but they don't shell out $3 million to fire average basketball coaches.

Any realistic candidate sans Pearl and Howland likely means short term financial loss suffered by our AD. The cheaper the hire they make, the less of a short term loss they will suffer and the greater the longer term loss IMO.

By talent, I agree. But between the slow starts(his first 2 years), and the inconsistent offense(which we also had the first 2 years) I just don't believe we have enough talent to offset the coaching deficiencies.

btw: that last part I would agree with, except for the fact I think defensively we could be better in the future. Just think of all the JRich's we would have to look forward to. hahaha jk I really like JRich
