David Jones South Pittsburg RB/LB

Well first of all i think it's great David's dad is posting here and personally I'd like to see the kid in orange. It's certainly an interesting process to see families and kids go through the recruiting process.

Your wrong on Robinson...no disrespect to him by any means but he did not have the grades. And had he, he'd would have been a Vol. He was by far the most looked at prospect at the State Championship. Also sorry to bust your bubble but I graduated from South Pittsburg. The 2 best players to ever come out of that High School were Jimmy Wigfall and Bo Hayden. Had Wigfall been a player in today's times he'd have been the next David Palmer. Hayden was a monster, played for Louisville but every school in the south wanted him...again he just didn't have the grades. Majors who could bend the rules with the best of them wanted Hayden bad but he couldn't get him in. If I'm not mistaken David Hale is coaching again at SP, he played there and signed with Vandy and had a nice career as a noseguard. Ask David how incredible those players were. Most years SP could produce a D1 player but it's always been the grades that hold them back. Sorry but step one is starting at home, then the teachers and then the staff making sure they're kids have the grades. Historically that's just never happened. Kids get taken care of and well as much as I hate it, there's alot of riff raff in that town. If there's ever been a more cliched Friday Night Lights football town than South Pittsburg. I'd like to know.

Spider...best of luck to David, I hope he's a Vol.

You are wrong UTC didnt even offer him! He had the grades to go to college thats why he is going to Tennessee State...He was a good high school player but a Eddie Moore he was not! It is pointless to talk to people that do not know on here..I know from coaches down there that he had grades but Division 1 and 11 didnt offer, not because of grades.. He waited till the last day to sign with Tenn. State just to see if others offered..

UTC could field South Pitt's team when they graduate high school and they would probably win more games.

Ya know I'm not going to post in this topic anymore after this...I basically lurk boards and keep my comments to myself. I know Vic and Heath very well. I'd be willing to bet a far, far cry better than you. I know Robinsons situation and I can say there's 3 in state schools that would have signed him had he the grades. Sign with those three and go Juco or sign with TSU and play right away. I'm not bashing the kid at all...if he keeps his head straight and works hard he'll make a name for himself at TSU. As for David and his father I wish nothing but the best...I love seeing kids from my hometown going to the big schools which brings me back to my point. Grades. If you haven't grown up there, played sports there, graduated from there then I don't think your qualified to make judgements. South Pittsburg as small as it is student wise, still manages to put good athletes on the field but the history of the school is not moving them on to the next level. That's just a fact. I'll say no more.

Since you made a screen name to just bash South Pittsburg says everything about what you are trying to accomplish..I will not repeat myself with what was already stated..I am from the Chattanooga area, I watch the kid play in the all star game at Finley..He is not D-1 and did not get any serious looks from any D-1 school..Tenn Tech and Tenn State was all that offered..He was pretty good with grades and never had any issues there.. I am sure you will say the same thing about David Jones throughout the season till he rushes for 1000 yards against the other valley schools down there or he signs with a big school..The kid is at the stage Moore was at this stage just not as much hype.. From what I have been told he is not quite as big or tall as Moore yet but a step quicker..Im pretty sure someone also said he makes straight A's so that cant hurt either..

You my friend have no idea what you are talking about!! Robinson had the grades, just wasnt D-1 material...David Jones from what I have been told from everyone in the Chattanooga area has like a 3.9...You must be one of those idiots from down the road down there in the valley that hate SP cause they are the best in the valley these days..

I resent that...:realmad:....I dont hate them cause there the best I hate then cause Im from Marion County were supposed to hate each other.....Best of luck to Mr.Jones I played a lil game of pick up wit him one time hes a hell of a athlete....

grew up in SP and played ball there, am personally acquainted with all those players you mentioned...and many more. Pound for pound Jimmy Wigfall was the best high school player I EVER saw. No exception! Not only has SPHS produced some great athletes but exceptional students as well. Perhaps you forget that Jim Beene, a SPHS grad who played tailback for Sewanee, was also a Rhodes Scholar. My brother was also a good player there(with an offer from Alabama) and he became a nuclear engineer. So, to suggest that SPHS is not academically up to par is unfortunate. It would greatly please me if David Jones becomes a Vol! South Pittsburg's football season last year was amazing!!!

Logic would tell us any LB prospect from that county will eventually start on the strong side for the Vols (Eddie Moore, Eric Westmoreland). Lets just hope Alabama doesn't buy him a Mustang and give his father a job at TVA in Jackson County, AL, a la Kenny Smith.

kenny wasnt given a mustang nor was his dad given a job .. he was given a camaro and his mom a house... and david wants to go to Tennessee...

David is very close to breaking a few weight lifting Records at this School... bench's well over 400 lbs. look at the youtube video... he did all that last year with a ankle injury, anyone that can play like that with a injury needs to be a vol.. and No Robinson did not have the grades..I am David's neighbor and I truly believe he is a human high light film, a very humble kid and a very proud dad.. we need more dad's like David's Dad... david can cut in open field like nobody.. this whole last year in south pittsburgs dominance I only saw David tackled by one person a cpl times.. watch the David Jones video on You tube.. he drags guys down the field. I'm telling you watch out for david his stock seems to be going up as the season begins.. Id say before the 3rd game is over he will be the Top prospect in many ways

Just watched the youtube video and he is a very powerful runner. He could be a great power back. The first guy never brought him down. I would love to see a kid like him in orange.

I'm going to have to strongly disagree with you on the job thing. A family member of mine grew up with Kenny Smith and I believe him. I may have said the incorrect redneck car, but whatever.

well thats good to know BUT.. I ran around with Kenny and it had nothing to do with Alabama it was North jackson booster that gave his MOM a house and him a car the dad stayed in jasper.. they seperated..

Ha ha, yeah, I bet it had nothing at all to do with UAT, sure. They gave him cars and homes for one year of high school. Okay.

So back to david jones, I just think we don't offer. Too much talent out there that will commit to us.

Trust me this Kid is a rare find... just keep up with him as the year goes on.. someone is going to get a d1 starter here.... a great Rb a awesome Lb and maybe a better DB...

I just watched the youtube video.

YouTube - David Jones - South Pittsburg HS - 2007 highlights

I have to admit this kid looks impressive. I like the fact that he is more of a mid-field runner and doesn't run to the sidelines all the time. He looks good on defense too. His weight, height, forty time, vertical, bench press and even GPA looks good. He seems like a dream recruit.

The only thing that would make me a little hesitant is that he plays for a 1A school. You can't help but wonder if he faces weak competition. I am not saying he does, but we have seen this before. (Chris Donald for example - although I think he will make a good player at UT in time). Other than this, Jones looks great!

Everyone says Brown is overhyped because of weak competition and inferior HS talent. Jones is in 1A. Those are very small schools.
