David Reaves (merged)

Why would kiffin hire reaves? USC's offense has been bad all year and their recruiting isn't that good either. Kiffin should hire coaches from good teams.

Reaves is Kiffin's brother-in-law. Throw in Kiffin's dad as DC and you might as well give the family mutt Smokey's job.

I can tell you this after reading the reaction of a few Cock fans. They are not happy about possibly losing Reaves at all.

We know these guys can recruit but can they coach? We had pretty good recruiting with CPF but as we've seen it doesn't do much good to get the recruits if they can't coach them up and get the best out of them.

Reaves is the QB coach, at USCe and we see how they've done this year..

USC has to recruit against clemson and they have not been a big program which makes recruiting even harder. So for them to get a top 15 is pretty good, so any more help to our recruiting is very nice treat.

Being QB coach on the Ole Ball Coach's staff basically means you are the designated recruiter. Spurrier is the QB coach in that offense. All ways has been and all ways will be.

I'm betting the Kiffin and staff WILL recruit--but he'd better find some cats who can coach and DEVELOP players, which was one of the big problems with Fulmer. And job one is getting a GOOD qb coach--huge. Is Reaves the man for this job?

I hear ya spud... It looks like Kiffin may starting his own version of the UT Good Ole Boy System. Supposedly he is bringing dad, brother-in-law, and I wouldn't be surprised if little brother Chris tags along at some point. Seems like they are building a college football mafia.
Could you see Orgeron in some kids living room saying "We want yoose to come an' be apawt of da family. Once yoose apawt of us yoos always apawt of us. Just remember dough we ya family now and never go against da family". :matrix:

My thoughts exactly. This is not a good thing for UT. Besides, SC QBs are not that good. I don't like the move.

The biggest positive I see is he at least has 6 years experience in the SEC East. Not sold yet, but will support TNHCATUTK's staff.

I read the article which said he is Qb coach and recruiter. I did read the thread and I think the article carries more merit than a posters opinion.

That's part of the concern here. Since he hasn't proven he can develop QB's can he? If he doesn't, who will? I think a good QB coach who has a track record of developing QB's is a necessity given our situation. That is one reason I am wary of the hire.

We don't really know how this is going to work out yet either. Kiffin might be like Spurrier and coach his QBs himself. A lot of unknowns right now.
