Hunt and Reaves Leave Gamecock Staff
COLUMBIA, S.C. (November 30, 2008) - University of South Carolina
head coach Steve Spurrier announced today that two of his assistants
are no longer members of the Gamecock coaching staff.
John Hunt has been relieved of his duties effective immediately.
Coach Hunt has been on the Gamecocks' staff for the past four seasons
coaching the offensive line. Hunt has worked for Coach Spurrier
since 1999, first at the University of Florida, then with the
Washington Redskins, before joining the Gamecock staff in 2005.
"We appreciate the job John Hunt has done here at Carolina for the
past four seasons," said Coach Spurrier, "but we felt like we needed to
make a change in that area. He's a good person and we wish him the best."
"I don't agree with the decision, but I respect Coach Spurrier's
decision," said Hunt. "I appreciate the opportunity he gave me. I
enjoyed my time in South Carolina and wish the Gamecocks the best
in the future."
David Reaves, who has been at Carolina for the past seven years, has
resigned to pursue other coaching opportunities. Reaves has been a
full-time member of the South Carolina coaching staff for the past
five years after two seasons as a graduate assistant. He was given
the duties of recruiting coordinator in February of 2006 and was
handed the full-time quarterback coaching duties in the spring of 2007.
"We also appreciate the job David has done," said Coach Spurrier. "He
had a wonderful opportunity presented to him and will be moving on.
We wish him the best."
The Gamecocks finished the 2008 regular season with a 7-5 record and
a 4-4 mark in the Southeastern Conference.
