I think both coast offer their own unique positive attributes. I prefer the Atlantic side because I enjoy the large waves. As a family we've always enjoyed riding the waves in various ways.

Lol why you hate Destin so much? I prefer it over the Tampa area......unless I'm going to Busch Gardens lol

I don't hate Destin. But unless you are just parking your butt in a beach chair all day, the Tampa Bay area is better. It is loaded with cool things to do. Tons more cool places to go than just Busch Gardens.

I grew up going to Daytona. We always stayed at Daytona Beach Shores at a family friendly hotel called Sun Viking Lodge. Never had any safety issues. We normally eat at Our Deck Down Under, Aunt Catfish. Gonna try Hidden Treasures in Ponce Inlet this next trip.

On a sidenote, I did lol at the reference to Bigguns. We jokingly use that when we tell people our friends directions.

Skip Hidden Treasures. We tried it this week. Do not recommend.

Thing about New Smryna, you can get a nice two bedroom, two bath condo for about what you'd spend for a motel room in Daytona. That's why we started coming here instead of Daytona. When me and my brother got older and we wanted to bring a friend, we simply couldn't afford two hotel rooms in Daytona. We've been coming to new Smryna since 1982, only missing a couple of years. I would never go back to Daytona.

Here's a couple of pics I just took from our 8th floor condo balcony.

I agree unless you love saltwater fishing and golf

But I want you to understand me BCat...Destin is great. I just think for a full family vacation, that TBay is a awesome destination.

Appreciate the info. I've never been to Florida. Excited about going. We already booked the room. I wanted an oceanfront to be able to drink some beers and listen to the ocean.

Could just put a seashell to your ear and save a few hundred bucks.

Been there done that for a week except one day on a fishing charter, very relaxing. If I'm going to drive as far as Tampa, I'll just keep on heading south until I get to Sanibel.

One of my favorite vacations was when we rented a canal home in Cape Coral, and rented a boat for the week. A week of nothing but fishing and boating around Sanibel and Captiva.

Is it usually not crowded?

Is it usually not crowded?

On big weekends like the 4th of July it can get crouded. Weekends are a little more crowded. We stay on the south end which doesn't allow driving on the beach. Further north you can drive on the beach and thus it's more crowded.

nevermind. judging by the condos and beach line you might be closer down towards public beach access and Chases? hard to tell. there arent many places with 8 stores there.

course with the City of NSB seeing dollar signs (North Causeway, Hilton at Breakers), its only a matter of time before it becomes DB
