Places to eat I'd suggest:

- Nervous Nellie's. Good dinner spot, live music
- Doc Ford's, dinner spot, little pricier
- Bubble Room, on Captiva. Cool place, great desserts.
- Love Boat ice cream, best around
- Tuckaway Cafe, great breakfast
- Bennett's, best donut you'll ever eat. Was featured on Food Network. Theres one on Sanibel.

Shopping wise:

- Best bet is probably Tanger Outlets on the way to Sanibel
- if you don't mind driving 20 minutes or so, Gulf Coast Town Center and Miromar Outlets are the most popular around here
