DB Recruiting Board....

Give me Martin, Randolph and Loften (qualified) at safety...

Give me Coleman, King and Thomas at CB...

Give me Marcus at safety but turn him into an LB when he gets here...

That's how I'd like to see this DB class end up

Assume Loften qualifies and we land King.
That gives us 3 S (Martin, Randolph, Loften) and 2 CBs (Coleman, King).
We'd have room for 1 more with Dixon, Thomas, and Marcus on the board.
I think Marcus is the best overall player of those 3, but I'd rather take a 3rd CB than a 4th S.
Sucks about Jones committing to Bama - would've loved him as the 3rd CB in the class.

I agree with your choice of Marcus of the ones you listed, but my choice would be Countess.

In edit, I humbly think Hubbs is wrong about King. It is hard for me to believe that he is not a take.

And someone mentioned moving Marcus up to LB -- the staff does is looking for larger LB's - Marcus is 6' tall (at best) and 185 lbs, well short of what we are looking for in our LB's. The great thing about Marcus (aside from his ability to hit) is that he can play either CB or S.

Any reasoning? Grades, more interested db, etc. Thanks.

No one seems to know. Right after it was first reported that we had stopped recruiting him, Dooley denied it completely and he came to the Oregon game on his own dime.

But we have heard nothing more since then, and it seems that all the SEC schools have stopped recruiting him. I dunno myself, but I am very curious what is going on with him -- bad breath?? breaking wind in public??

I was just wondering if anybody knew what safety spot Loften,Martin, and Randolph were projected to play... And if one of them is projected at SS do they I have a chance see the field early because I would hope they could beat out Wagner...

Loften or Randolph will probably take over the SS spot. Waggner won't cut it.

Thanks, I figured Loften would after watching his film last year... I hadn't got to see any of Randolph or Martin... I just knew they had pretty good size and could play both... And your right about Wagner its almost painful watching him and Evans try and tackle ball carriers

IMO it will be a 3 way battle for the SS spot between Waggner, Loften, & Randolph next season.

Forgot about him, were going to have very good depth at the Saftey spots starting next season.

I wish we could say that about the corner situation as well. I like the Thomas pickup, but you never know how some will work out.

I think the 2-deep at CB will be solid.

Evans / Oliver
Gordon / Teague

Couple questions for our future at DB

Does anyone think Art Evans will ever live up to the hype?

We've been hearing how great he is in practice for a couple years now and he's shown little to nothing. Especially seems to need work on tackling.

Also, many Vol fans (myself included) have been down on Waggner, but without him we are currently 1-5 with a home loss to UAB.

Will Brent Brewer challenge Waggner for playing time this year or next?

Thanks

Dixon is a big time talent at CB too. He's a good sized corner with speed and playmaking ability.

Dixon has some good moves, but I haven't thought of him as "good sized"...5'10", 180lbs. Wouldn't that be more like ok sized?

Since this thread is turning into a Q&A jamboree, I got one for LV. Whatup with Robert Nelson and Jerod Askew? RN is smallish for a LB, but he had 176 tackles as a Jr. and 150 as a Sr. And JA was a hammer all over the field with a great GPA, so I don't get these rumors about him not picking up on the schemes.

Askew has not bought into the system. Also heard that he doesn't take football serious for whatever reason.
